September 2025 Check In Thread

Debunking-Some-Bunk-Is-September-Really-That-Bad-a-Mont-440x250

I know you are all hard at work with your credit goals.  Have you progressed as far as you hoped?  Were there any unforeseen expenses that cropped up and may have thrown you off schedule?

As a reminder, participation in these monthly check-ins are optional but encouraged. The goal is to help keep you on track, so feel free to post your progress updates here. This is a no-judgement zone; feel free to say what's keeping you up at night or give yourself a Kudo for having it all together.

Did you hit any potholes or speedbumps? Achieve some milestones, either small or mighty? Change your goals or add new ones?

Let us know how you're doing!

Re: September 2025 Check In Thread

Hello, checking in for September.

My current Experian Vantage3 score is 740 and I have a goal of reaching 751 by December 1.  I am using Chase Credit Journey to track my goal.  Other scores are Experian Fico8 751, TransUnion Fico8 758, and Equifax Fico8 788.  My revolving account balances are 4501.90 which is higher than I am comfortable with especially since I just took a personal loan a few months ago to pay off credit card balances.  By December 1, the balances should be 2800.  This is a journey, not a sprint.  Long term, I would like to get into the 800 range on scores, but that won't happen until my average age of account goes of 5 years and now I am just over 3 years.

Gardening since 6/26/25. Cards: Robinhood Gold $10K, PenFed $8750, Synchrony MC $8000, Citi AAdvantage MC $7300, Amazon Chase Visa $5000,Mercury $4900, CareCredit $4000, MissionLane $1600, FirstSavings $2500, US Bank State Farm Visa $1000, CreditOne $1000
My goal cards: AAA Cashback, FirstTech FCU Platinum, FNBO Evergreen, NASA Platinum, Bellco, Alliant
My personal blacklist: CapitalOne, BankOfAmerica, WellsFargo, Discover
Starting Score: 726 (Experian VantageScore3)
Current Score:741
Goal Score: 745 (by 8/1/25)

Re: September 2025 Check In Thread

Busy month last month.  Got a new car through Land Rover financial group, approved with a 720 score (not sure what score they pulled but know it was TransUnion).  Got a few declines from Navy Federal and Penfed for the same auto loan.  Got a decently low interest rate through Land Rover, which surprised me, 5.4%.  Opened a new line of credit at my CU.

All Fico8 and 9 scores now over 700!  This is a first for me, so I'm really glad to hit that milestone.  Looking forward to climbing above 720, but I know that'll take 9-12 months.  I'll just keep plugging away.

This month I'm in the market for some home improvement.  After that it's back to the garden.  Usually try to group all new credit applications within a month.

Thanks for keeping the thread going!

Re: September 2025 Check In Thread

Hi, everyone! I hope you all are enjoying the tail end of summer. (It's still hot down here, so I'll be enjoying it until around mid-November.)

I didn't check in last month, but I accidentally left balances on all three of my cards so my scores dropped pretty significantly. However, I was able to reestablish AZEO this month and my scores are back to normal. EX8 is at 752, EQ8 is at 773, and TU8 is at 771. My EX9 is at 760, but that's from the 1st of the month (before my accounts report) so I am not sure if that is 100% accurate. In any case, I'm feeling really good about where my scores are.

I also decided to try my luck with another CLI with Navy Federal, since it's been just over six months since my last one. My request went to manual review (as it always does), but I was delighted to log in a few days ago and discover that my limit had been bumped up from $9,000 to $17,000! I am continually surprised how much credit Navy Federal is willing to extend me, but I'll definitely take it. I'll be requesting CLIs on my Savor and BILT cards next month, but my hopes aren't as high as they were with Navy Federal.

See you all in October! Be well until then.
