Probably a stupid question but why is there such a difference between the score I get directly from Experian via their website, and the Experian score I get from using a service like Freescore to run my triple- bureau credit report? Shouldn't they be identical?
Hi there.
Unfortunately neither the EX score you get from the EX website nor from a site like Freescore is an EX FICO score. In fact no one has been able to buy their own Experian FICO score since February of 2009. Creditors can pull Experian and also there is a CU (PSECU) in Pennsylvania that supplies that information to it's members only. You can only buy true FICO scores at a few places. One place is here at myFICO. I suggest you do an internet search for "myfico discount codes" to save a little money.
At one time you could also purchase your Transunion score at www.transunioncs.com but that site seems to be having problems lately. At www.equifax.com EQ will still sell you an EQ FICO score but you have to look very hard to find it.
From a BK years ago to:
EX - 3/11 pulled by lender- 835, EQ - 2/11-816, TU - 2/11-782
"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they've made a difference. The Marines don't have that problem".
Hi --just to help avoid future confusion on your part or anyone else's, Experian isn't providing your FICO score. I know you wrote FAKO later in your post, but I just want to point out that it's so easy to call all these things "FICO scores", blurring the distinction, and in fact, the purveyors of FAKO's are relying on this tendency.
The reason that they sell FAKO's is because (1) they can and (2) they make more money on them, because they don't have to share the fees with FICO.
freescore is the plus score the other ex score is the vantage score

Yes but that's exactly my point. Experian doesn't provide a FICO score...they provide a FAKO score that they make up. My question is why they are allowed to provide a fake number to me as a consumer, and then provide the real FICO number to a potential creditor of mine and not share that Fico number with me. It would seem like they should be required to provide m FIco number since the information they are providing (I.e. My Fico score) is potentially causing me to get a unfavorable interest rate.
All credit scores are real. It is just a quesstion of whether a lender uses that method or not. Most lenders use the FICO score or some variant of it.
Credit scores are dervived from the content of your CR so take care of the content of your CR and the scores will take care of themselves.
