Re: Discover minimum balance that will report?

No worries, I take zero offense to anyone questioning any data points they come across on these forums, as many people are quick to shoot from the hip on something and post it as fact when perhaps it isn't.  We see this every day on here.  I just wanted to let you know that it's something I thoroughly tested myself relatively recently.

Re: Discover minimum balance that will report?

Bumping this thread.

I'm helping a family member keep their utilization low as they're trying to apply for a Citi DC. They left a balance of $2.85 on their Discover. Statement cut and shows there is a balance of $2.85 due. Does that mean it wasn't forgiven? Will it report the $2.85 or $0 to the bureaus? If it will report $0, I still have some time for them to keep a balance on another card which will cut tomorrow. Any help is appreciated.

If the statement shows a balance, then that figure is what gets reported.

The way to tell if a small balance was forgiven, is to check whether the statement balance changes to $0 after the closing date. Last time I did this, I left $1.50 on the card, and the day after the statement closed, it reverted to $0.

Also pretty sure I read somewhere the threshold is $1.99 now, as in $1.99 is the maximum amount that will be forgiven, while $2 will get posted.
