Hi this morning I I went on Discover to check my Transuion fico 8 for this month, and had surprise it showed that my score went from 809 to 799. only thing that change was my Citi dc credit card posted with a balance of 471 with cl of 19.6K. Here are data points for last 2 months. BOA visa cash rewards had Balance 1,200 with cl of 18K and bank of us cash + had balance of 200 dollars with cl of 25K. With above data points had Fico score of 809 and Transuion shows that I have no lates 100% on time payments and 0 inquires. This nonth trans union shows that my balance on BOA visa account has balance of 1075 and Us bank visa has balance of 150 so only thing that happen is Citi bank posted balance of 471 dollars and that drop my score by 10 points. Reason why I did not make payment before Citi DC is because I have 7 months at 0% offer and going to make One hundred dollar payments for next couple of months. Can smart ones on this board tell me why My score would take drop like this because cit reported a small balance and by the Transunion shows that my total cl are 252.950 dollars. WAS not happy when I saw this in my Discover app.
Scores don't change for no reason. This drop could be due to the increased number of accounts now reporting a balance, but since the Disco app only updates once per month, it's hard to say for certain that the score drop was due to this balance update. You now have 3(?) cards reporting a balance out of how many total?
You may need to look a bit deeper for any other changes - including those age-related (all accounts age on thec1st of the month), that occurred between the last score update and this one.
I have 20 accounts that are open and showing on Transunion, went from 2 accounts reporting balances to 3 accounts reporting now. I may go head and pay off Citi bank and US bank visa to get my scores to go back up over 800. I can see couple of points drop not 10 points. I have open new accounts in past year and not see this much of drop.
I'm pretty sure it's due to having one additional account reporting a balance.
Also keep in mind that as your score increases, the % impact of a 10 point hit drops, losing 10pts from a score of 809 is a 1.2% drop.
Yes I understand the percentage change is less then 2% change, but below 800 your score is verry good and above 800 it excellent. Going from 2 accounts to 3 accounts with total of 20 accounts should not make that much difference in scores. Has my risk profile change that much because I start using a third account and put less then 2% on card.
I'm not sure it was the increased number of accounts with a balance that dropped your score... going from 10% of cards reporting to 15% really doesn't seem worth a 10 point penalty. You'd have to payoff that 3rd card to see if all points are returned to confirm this as the cause-- but finances over FICO...if you intended to stretch out repayment of this balance, I don't think you should let 10 points deter that plan. 799 vs 809 is really a negligible difference in the grand scheme of things (but I get your feelings about it).
I could be wrong, but it may be something else that caused it... or a combo of factors over the past 30 days.

If the only change in your report is that a $19.6k account which previously reported zero balance has now reported a $471 balance, the only thing that presents itself as a possible reason for the score drop is the increase in 'accounts reporting a balance'. Without knowing how many other zero balance accounts you have, I can't hazard a guess as to whether that would have accounted for 10 points, though.
Update: I see that you have 20 accounts. So actually I think that going from 2 accounts reporting a balance to 3 accounts reporting a balance would not have accounted for a 10-point drop. I'm guessing something else contributed.

These are just words that describe the ranges for scores. Not made in credit decisions. A 760 is just as good as a 800. Its a personal thing to drop below 800. Only people that know are you and what you post on here. Many on here with upper 800 scores have been denied for cards that people in the mid 700's got approved for. People like us would love to have 800 score. 10 points isnt the end of the world. Be happy where your at. Wanna trade scores?
The last account that I open was the BOA visa rewards card back in April of 21.
