How come score it not higher.

I own my home cars toys outright.  The only living debt I have is what I place on my credit card each month.  I pay all credit cards off each month.  My average ballance is 14% on my AMEX and 1% on my Visa.  I place most on AMEX to get money back.  I have 2 charge offs that are over 7 years old but they show as droping off in september of 2009.  I have not paid them out of principle.  I called and verifiedbefore going into the doctors office that they perform a specific service.  WHen I got there they told me I had to go to a different office.  They wanted to charge me $100 for each kid for telling me I have to go to a different one of their offices.  This all should have been told to me on the phone.  Other then that I have no lates.  I have 19 years of history.  I have had car loans credit card and home loans. My debt to income ratio is sub 3% at any given time.  I opened one credit card and canceled the other in the last 9 months. I have plenty in the bank.  My score is a 752.  I would have thought it would have been in the 800's with my history.  What can I do to improve it?

Welcome tot he Forums!

Likely the COs are dragging you down.

Debt to Income doesn't matter to FICO, as your income isn't part of the score.

Do you know your Avg. age of accts (AAoA)?

Re: How come score it not higher.

An 8 yr AAoA is awesome....if it were lower (2-3 yrs) then I'd say it is that too. The COs are really holding you back.

Got to thinking.....medical offices seldom report. This isn't a collection agency, right? There are ways to get it removed legitimately, but it would mean breaking principle and eventually paying them. Besides, Sept. will be here before you know it.

Re: How come score it not higher.

It is with a collection agency.  What are the ways to remove it?  The original charge was 11 years ago but then they sold it off to the collection agency.  The principal to me is more important.  If I had not called to verify they could do the procedure even asking if I need to go to their other office I would pay.  I paid the other office but I am not willing to pay for a service not rendered.  I believe my score is still high enough that I should not have difficulties getting a loan.

Does the derogatorily come off when the 7 years are up with the collection agency?  Can they sell it off to someone else and place it back on my report?

Re: How come score it not higher.

Because you have those medical collections, you need to use the HIPAA Process to remove it legitimately.

Re: How come score it not higher.

byrdman,

Thank you for that information.  Do you know if after the 7 years is up and the bill has not been paid, can they sell the debt off and the new company post the debt  to the CRA for 7 more years?

This item should be gone approximately 7 years and 180 days from the date of first delinquency. This is not the date the item was listed on your credit report by the collection agency. 11 years from the original charge? This should have been gone a long time ago.

Ditto.

ETA: If I had proof that this was over 7.5 yrs ago, then I would personally ignore the HIPAA process and I would dispute each CRA via mail (CMRRR) showing such proof and they should delete. Dispute as being time-barred.

Re: How come score it not higher.

Egads debtfree, I was reading your post so fast, that I didn't notice the fact that the charge was 11 years ago. Sorry about that. That's what we call zombie debt, and I would agree with Smallfry and Llecs. Dispute with CRA past CRTP. If you want, for good measure, you can send the CAs a nice FOAD letter too.
