How difficult is it to get 800?

Haven't pulled my CR for a year not really caring what my scores were.  I thought my scores were high until I pulled it recently.   To my surprise my TU was at 695, EQ at 667, EX at 689.  All due to a 30 day late from courtesy of PayPal/GEMB on September of 07.  My average history was at 4 yrs (Oldest being 9), Util of 38%.

This was two weeks ago...now, after a good fight with PayPal/GEMB and having them to drop my 30 day late and immediately reporting to all 3 bureaus and getting my Util down to 20%, my scores shot up to 762(TU), 748(EQ), and 748(EX).  Smiley Very Happy

Now.. all you seasoned veterans, what is the best strategy to acheive 800+ within short period of time?  I have 20 revolving accounts with 8 active with 20% util.  Have 1 car purchase loan and 1 recreational vehicle purchase loan (Ducati 749s / gift for my hubby  Smiley Wink).

I plan to pay down my util to 3-7%.

I did the simulator according to these numbers but the spread seems to be bit too wide.  TU (772-812), EX (768-808).  Why is there a 40 point spread?  I really don't get this.  Smiley Surprised

800 = Long history, never late, good mix, low utl.

It's the history potion that you have to WAIT for-

Get that utl down- and you will be on your way-
it a few months or years you will be in the 800's-

The spread is just to take into account that other things can happen during this time period --changing util, etc. It's sort of saying that your scores ought to be around TU 792, EQ (not EX) 788, plus or minus 20 points. There's always some fuzziness involved in trying to predict score changes, as we've all found from our current activity.

FICO's: EQ 781 - TU 793 - EX 779 (from PSECU) - Done credit hunting; having fun with credit gardening. - EQ 590 on 5/14/2007
