How many points are you paying for that approval

I'm not going to be looking for any major credit such as a mortgage or anything else for the foreseeable future, so I'm not overly concerned with what applications and/or approvals for new cards do to my score. I tend to go after new cards that appeal to me for various reasons, and generally in twos. The last two I got was on 3/6/2023, a 2nd discover card (5k) and an NFCU More rewards (7.1k). I lost 2 to 3 points for each HP on TU and EX, and now that they've both reported to the CRAs, the results are in. I lost an additional 7 points on TU only! I keep waiting for someone to pop out and say 'just kidding'. Of course this will disappoint those who take bigger hits, and yet encourage others. Not encouraging anyone to go out and apply for anything, just sharing my recent experience. YMMV as everything is going to be profile specific!

Re: How many points are you paying for that approval

I have a super thin file. I app'd for my 2nd revolver 8 years after the first. 0 inquiries on all CRs. I didn't have access to any TU score when I applied.

EX8: -16 pts for inquiry, score completely rebounded by the next month, but when CC reported in month 2, my score tanked 38 pts.
EX9: -17 pts for inquiry, score increased 11 points next month, but dropped a further 8 pts when the card reported in month 2.
EQ8: no inquiry with new revolver app, but score dropped 26 points when the cc reported in month 2.

At the time I had 1/2 cards reporting with a balance under $50/1% total utilization.

Re: How many points are you paying for that approval

Hi, as far as scores go, I'll just be refering to the Experian score. My background is that I have 5 total credit cards currently, my oldest which is from 2016, 3 which I applied for in Nov 2022, and 1 I card applied for just a couple weeks ago which hasn't yet reported as a new card. 2 of the 3 cards from Nov 2022, as well as my newest card, pulled Experian, so currently I have 3 inquires on Experian. I have two charge offs from 2020 that were paid in settlements less than full in 2021, and one collection paid in full in Oct 2022. My score prior to applying for those 3 new cards was 627. I also have 1 auto loan I started in Mar 2021, so I had 1 inquiry at that time of the Nov 2022 applications, but it has since fallen off. The card that I just applied for 2 weeks ago, shows there's no change yet to my score in regards to the hard pull.

Side note...do you know if when it comes to hard pulls, if the score change should have reflected by now?

Since my newest card hasn't yet reported, for the cards I opened in Nov 2022, it looks like there was no decrease for the hard pulls, but that my score gradually increased from 627 to 639 with 2 of the new accounts reporting by Dec 2022. Then when the third new card posted in early Jan 2023, while at the same time I had a high utilization alert too for one card, there was a 14 point decrease to 625. I started to work on my unitilization a bit, or maybe it's because they aged a couple months too (?), but my score increased to 655 by Feb 2023. Now at the moment, my utilization on all my cards is under 30%, and my current score is 665.

@M_Smart007 I always appreciate reading your DPs as they are both impressive, and fascinating. You have so many accounts, and so much going on all the time. If this were some type of movie, I could imagine the system just throwing it's hands up and saying here we go with this guy again, Smiley Very Happy. You've undoubtedly built quite a file over your lifetime, I really appreciate you sharing all the info!

Re: How many points are you paying for that approval

I don't pay for all three CB scores, just rely on freebie EX F8. I was 850 on a mature (25+ years) and clean but relatively thin file - I stupidly closed nearly all my OG cards about 15 years ago. Was maintaining 850 for a while then decided to add Chase Sapphire to my Freedom Unlimited in September 2022. Dropped to 839 once it reported to EX (I think I lost 1-2 points on the HP, can't recall.) Went up to 842 after three months and it's been hanging there. FWIW, my EX F9 never dropped from 850 at all. So it cost me 8 points, which is NBD, but I'm jonesing for the return of the perfecto, ha.
