Hypothetical AU question

Would enjoy some opinions on this hypothetical situation:

  • Subject A has a thick and dirty file.  One card of which is a Citi Card with $5000 CL and $440 BAL.  It aslo has a single 30 day late from December 2017, aged 17 months at this point.   Age of account is 48 months.
  • Subject B  is an 18 year old with no credit.

Both subjects have the same address and are relatives with a legitimate AU relationship.

Is it prudent to add Subject B as an AU to this Citi card from Subject A

Does the 48 month age appear on the AU file?

Does the 30 day late appear on the just added AU's file?

Is the 30 day late old enough to say "the benefits are worth more than the negatives"?

Are there any risks with the dirty file of subject A beyond the card in question?

Thoughts?

Re: Hypothetical AU question

It SHOULD appear. You might want to verify with Citi that they will report it on the 18-year-old's reports. If it appears, all of it would appear, I think (not sure if Citi has any unique policies with this). Age of account, the 30-day late, the limit, the utilization, everything. As for whether it would be helpful for the 18-year-old, your guess is probably better than mine, but my guess is that it probably would be.

Re: Hypothetical AU question

Yes Citibank should report the age if they follow typical policy. Yes the 30 day late will come along with it, it’s all or nothing, assuming it counts, and with the same name and address it probably will.

A 30 day late still keeps you on a clean scorecard from my understanding, but there is going to be a penalty for it. I can’t tell you if the benefits outweigh the detriments. What’s the typical utilization on the card? Do you have another card thats clean you could add him/her to? Any risks? Do you mean to subject B? The only thing that will crossover is what you add him or her to, such is the AU account.

Re: Hypothetical AU question

I concur regarding the categorization of the account under payment history.

A 30-late is not a major derog, and does not place payment history scoring under a "dirty" vs "clean" scorecard categorization for bucketing purposes.

What is the score of subject A?

That should give a pretty good indication of the degree to which the addition may affect scoring of subject B.
