Further confirming what we believe about 3 inquiries being a threshold, today my TU FICO 8 rose 4 points as my TU scorable inquiries dropped from 3 to 2. Interesting that TU rose 4 points, while EX had risen 7.
So now I have only 2 scorable inquiries with each bureau. These are undoubtedly by far the lowest numbers since I joined this crazy site
(PS It is rare for me to be able to pinpoint cause-and-effect events in TU, because I do not get daily updates for TU as I do with EX. But it just so happened that after I got an alert today that my TU FICO 8 had increased by 4 points, I had a 3 bureau report in the pipeline and was able to pull it without spending extra. So it is likely, although not certain, that the dropped inquiry caused the point increase.)
Good detective work!
Update:
Within the last day or two, I experienced the following gains in FICO 8:
EQ + 8
TU + 5
I believe these were attributable to my scorable inquiries dropping from 2 to 1 on each bureau. But I'm not sure.
Oddly it appears that it was very close in time that 2 inquiries dropped to 1 on all 3 bureaus, so here is the result in the respective FICO 8 scores:
EX +3
EQ +8
TU +5
This also fully confirms that 2 hard inquiries is a threshold.
This is great info for those looking to dig in deep with FICO scores. Appreciate the share!

An inquiry just dropped off of my EX report, bringing total scorable inquiries down from 1 to 0. My EX FICO 8 added another 3 points.

This contradicts my previous theory that 3-5 is a bin, since under that theory dropping from 4 to 3 should have been a non-event.
This supports a theory that @Thomas_Thumb postulated that 4-5 is a bin.
Based on my recent experience with EQ, it now appears to me that 3 is a threshold all by itself. I.e. dropping to 3 gains points, and dropping from 3 to 2 gains points. Most likely I'll be finding out shortly if what happened with EQ will also happen with EX.
How does having 1 fall off help your FICO score if FICO says they don't affect your score after 12 months?

We have only been discussing "scorable inquiries", which are those placed during the previous 12 months.
