Late Payment Baddies

How long do 30 day late baddies stay on your credit report? How long do they affect your score once they're a few years old?

I have three negative accounts:

  • Most recent 30 days late….Jan 2017 (TU only)
  • Most recent 30 days late….Oct 2015
  • Most recent 30 days late….Feb 2013

Anything I can do about these, or do I just have to wait it out and let them fall off?

Re: Late Payment Baddies

You can try and goodwill them, otherwise, they are there for the 7 years. There was a discussion a while back where some think only 30 days lose their punch and hurt after about 2 years. I'm not sure if this is the case or not. I did have some tradelines fall last month that had some 30 days on it and I got about a 20 point boost on EQ. There was some other stuff going on that month too, so not sure how much the change could have been related to the 30-day lates disappearing.

Started Rebuild 4/2018: EX 616| TU 604| EQ 621

Current 5/28/20:

First Goal Score: 750+ Reached 3/2019

Next Goal all over 800

Re: Late Payment Baddies

I have one 6 year old 30 day late and with recent UTI improvements have scores in the 780s. I've just improved my UTI a bit more and I'm hoping to pick up another 10-20 points. If that happens it will show that 800 is possible with an old baddie that has not fallen off yet.

Scores: March 21 FICO 8: EX 810, TU 808, EQ 813
AoOA: closed: 40 years, open: 30 years; AAoA: 14 years
Amex Gold, Amex Blue, Amex ED, Amex Delta Blue, Amex Hilton Surpass, BoA Platinum Plus, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Amazon, Chase CSP, Chase United Explorer, Citi AA, Sync Lowes, total CL 203k

Re: Late Payment Baddies

800 is achievable.  I have a 30d from 12/2012 (6y10m) and my EQ & EX scores are in the 800's.  When that 30d was removed early from TU last month I received a 50 pt increase.  Nothing else changed.  So it supports the theory of some that a single 30 day that's 6+ years old can carry some weight.

Re: Late Payment Baddies

Thanks @Trudy. It looks like 800 is possible this year, and maybe close to 850 next year when the 30 day late drops off.

Wow, thanks for sharing that.  One of my 30-days is 6 years old, so it's good to know that probably still carries some weight.  And congrats on hitting 840/850, at least with TU!  Smiley Happy

Re: Late Payment Baddies

I still find that bump amazing but some of the guru's that chimed in made me feel easier about the realilty of that capablity.  I suppose score cards can make a difference (still a bit surprised) but seems like it's possible.  This is my post and responses to it.

Re: Late Payment Baddies

Two members recently reported the score gains they realized when their only 30 day late fell off between 6-7 years in age.  One member I believe reported 31 points and the other 41 points.  Based on this limited data I think we can start to guess that a very aged minor delinquency coming off, assuming there are no other negative items may be worth something like 35-36 points on average.
