You really don't need to check your FICO scores every month, especially since they are variable with your spending habits. But, it is satisfying to see them go up every once in awhile. I check mine only once or twice a year, but only when FICO discounts them during the year. I've mentioned before that I'm allergic to credit cards and only charge when I'm offered an exceptional opportunity. Right now I'm using a card with no interest for five years on a $10K purchase, and that suits me just fine, although I'll pay it off in three.
I have a couple more cards that are offering me free interest for a year, but I'll keep my hands in my pockets and avoid the temptation to purchase something I don't need. I'll be checking my FICO scores again this year when they offer another discount.
Cheers.
I have just recently joined the 800 club with my TU Fico coming in at 817. My upcoming billing cycle should bring all 3 up healthily over 800!

For the first time today all 3 are over 760. Never thought I would see this day in my life, ever.
No new apps for a long time, next stop 800 club.
That's exactly what I had said at that time. It took only about 7 months to reach the 800 club (with 2 of them anyway).
Thanks, guys!
At one time, perhaps 10 years ago due to my gullibility in trusting my ex to properly administer our finances...I had a credit score of 389! Yes, I'm sure I would have gotten laughed out of a bank for attempting to procure a loan of $5 with terms of 3 lifetimes to pay it back! Thankffully I learned from my mistakes and was able to right the course through self-discipline and of course, time. What truly worked for me was employing the old addage of "if ya want something done right then do it yourself" because in the end only you are responsible for you. Present day I take ownership of ALL my decisions good or bad and simply put...it works so keep the faith to those who are in the rebuilding process and you will seize the ring!
I just yanked my three FICO's and I'm quite happy. I've been involved with fixing credit and studying credit scores for many years, so anything is possible.

Wow! That's impressive, congrats on your 850 scores!

Wow!!! That is quite impressive and it shows there is hope for the rest of us.
Thanks! I'll share some details on my CR's so others can see how this happened.
All three of my FICO's have been around 810-815 for a long time. All three of my CR's are reporting identical information and all of it is accurate (not that common).
- Credit History: 26 years
- AAoA: 10+ years
- 12 Total Accounts
- 7 Revolving, 1 Open (Amex), 4 Installments
- Revolving Accounts: 5 open, 2 closed
- Open Account: 1 open
- Installment Accounts: 1 open (auto), 3 closed (1 auto, 2 loans)
- Revolving Util: 1 CC with a 40K CL and a balance of $890 (util about 2%), 1 CC with a 23K CL and a balance of $292 (util about 1%), all others reporting $0 balances
- Total available credit on open revolving accounts: 114.6K
- Total balances on all open revolving accounts: $1,182
- Cumulative util on all open revolving accounts: 1%
- Auto Loan: a balance of about $3,900
- All of my CC accounts are from big banks (open Amex, CITI, Chase) (closed Discover, BoA) except for one. This card is from a local bank.
- No inqs
- Obviously, no lates or other baddies
An observation (or a suspicion) on the FICO 08 scoring model. It appears the threshold for revolving accounts not factoring in util calculations has dropped. In the past, my 40K CL CC didn't factor in my utilization percentages with TU, but they did with EQ and EX. Now, it doesn't seem this CC factors in util percentages with all three CRA's when the FICO 08 model is used.
