I'm interested on input if anyone has gone through this before.
I have an Elan financial Visa through my credit union. I have had this card for about 15 years now. Recently my credit union was bought out and merged with another credit union. I'm concerned that at some point this credit card will get migrated also and be forced to take the card from the new credit union. When it does I'm worried they will show my 15 year old and very established line with them as closed and put up a new account. I don't want them wrecking my credit report.
What normally happens during bank mergers with branded credit cards?
Thanks

I guess it's a YMMV thing. I can't recall any posts where a buying bank reissued with a current open date, but you never know. I went through it one time only and that was with Wachovia/Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo issued a new CC with a new number, but didn't report in duplicate. It staryed as one TL with a new name and kept the same open date.
dont worry about that and the merger to take place. That card aging will not change because of said merger. It does not matter even if they change the name of the card.
It did happen when US Bank bought the Kroger CC from RBS. They changed the opening date on everyone's cards to when they took over. They recently backed down and restored the original dates.
Generally, though, the original date stays.
