It has just been 9 months since your BK and your scores are that high? How many credit cards do you have post BK? It has been 5.5 years since my BK and my score is in the 630's . Did you go on an app spree?

Super, I think casino meant 8.9 years old.

I did some score simulations on another site and it seems to me that the older your bankruptcy is the less it impacts your score. Mines was recently removed from my EQ report and my score went up a few point but nothing significant and then the next day it went back down by 4 because a new collection hit. Fought and got the collection off and my score went up by 6. so go figure.
What's this birthday thing about? My birthday is coming up next week. Is there some correlation between your score and your age/birthday? If so, that would be awesome!

Again, the birthday has nothing to do with your birthday, but the birthday of the credit or debt. The older they get, the better to your scores they are.

Re: SCORES NEVER CHANGE

I am totally frustrated with EQ.  They must be really using my BK against me.  Last month  my balances were $3 and I'm still at 698.

We are at their mercy and cannot  even dispute a computer.  I use their score power and I'm getting ready to cancel it.  They sent me an alert that I was at 10% util with one CC.  Actually it was 7%.

As I posted before they have me at Very good  Very Good  Great  and Good. But have my score as good which it is not.  698 is considered problem credit.  Good credit kicks in around 705 for interest rates............................sigh.........................

Re: SCORES NEVER CHANGE

My initial thought is you are kinda light on no.of cards Of course, there is no set rule as to what the optimum number of cards is - but I think (but can't prove it) 8 is better than 6. Of those 8, 2 or 3 should show a balance ( < 3 %) each month.

How come 9 closed accounts?

Mix? Have a store card in there, have a gas card, and an installment reporting?

Re: SCORES NEVER CHANGE

I too feel your same frustration. I paid my Amex last month from $2498 bal to $30 with a $10k CL, my Cap1 to 0, owed $108, and my CU visa to $0 from 1,000 with a $7500 CL and no change in my Equifax score of 686! That was over 6 wks ago that I made all these payments 6 wks ago. It just isn't fair. My Equifax was 689 but I guess my util. got kinda high on my Amex and it dropped 3 pts 6 wks ago. I wanted to get a car loan at end of Sept. and hoped all my scores would reach or past 700. At this rate that's not gonna happen.

Re: SCORES NEVER CHANGE

COBRA--Two closed are auto loans paid off.   The others are crappy cards I had for rebuilding after BK.  Ones that would not grow with me or would not delete a/f, etc.  I had a Blair store card that would not give me cli so I closed that.  (They said I needed to use it more, but what can you buy for 200.)  I really want a Kohls and Target but afraid to apply as it will lower my score.  I do not need to buy a car or a house so no active installments.

You don't think 6 is enough?

I have 2 inquiries coming off (1 today and 1 tomorrow).

I just don't understand EQ being so low.  I can't even get the 2 pts I need for 700.

Re: SCORES NEVER CHANGE

Is it a good idea not to apply for another credit card if one is planning on purchasing a house within the next 6 months?

I think 6 credit cards is definitely enough. Are they spread around with different banks or credit unions? There really isn't much you can do to be realistic. You can pay on time and keep the utilization down. You can stop applying for anything unless of course you need a car or home.

Other than that you can't help oldest account reporting nor can you do a thing about average age. I think once the BK falls and all else being equal your EQ will rise. They really hate any negatives on the reports probably more than EX and TU. Hang in there.
