In April 2008 I moved to Texas and got engaged.
My then Fiance had not been paying a couple of his credit cards for 6 months (his roommate walked out leaving him with the rent and bills to pay in total and he lost his job). I didn't have any credit cards (international student) as I wasn't planning on staying in the USA at the time.
DH has one closed account, 6 x 30 day lates, 3 x 60 day lates, 1 x 90 day late, 3 x 120 day lates. (Over various accounts)
Scores:
DH:
TU - 491
EQ - 500
EX - 504
ME:
TU - NONE
EQ - NONE
EX - NONE
I made the mistake of bringing everything up to date when I moved in (I may have done things differently if I had found this board first). Nothing had yet been charged off and only 1 account had been closed. Everything else was just being horribly inflated by interest rates, late fees and over limit charges.
By December 2008:
DH:
TU - 526
EQ - 527
EX - 531
ME:
TU - 618
EQ - 600
EX - 612
I was paying everything on time, had a secured card and two store cards in my name and DH had me on one card that he had managed to keep paying on as an AU.
In July 2009: (mortgage pull)
DH:
TU - 680
EQ - 645
EX - 663
ME:
TU - 681
EQ - 681
EX - 703
By now I had a couple more accounts, had some lates deleted for DH, everything was being paid on time and we both had a bajillion inquiries from looking at houses. Our reports are a lot cleaner at this point tho (esp DH)
As of today:
DH:
TU: 683
EQ: 664
ME:
TU: 723
EQ: 691
DH still has 2 30 day lates (one on Cap one and one on BoA) from 2 years and 4 months ago. A 60 day late on BoA from 2 yr 3 months ago, then a 30, 60, 90, 120, 120, 120 late notation on his account running from November 2007 to April 2008 on that same BoA account. I don't think those are ever going anywhere so I guess we will be stuck with them for another 5 years or thereabouts but...
THANK YOU to everyone on the board here. My credit is looking good and I will make sure that my now husband's credit stays getting better!
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!
