Think before you correct errors...

I've been pulling my score monthly in order to purchase a home.

My scores from Transunion were:

June - 573

July - 603

Aug - 610

Sept - 615

I was almost to 620.

There was an old student loan account that was listed as >120 days past due< . This loan had been transferred to another account. I disputed the "120 days late". Of course the ruling was in my favor and the account was removed and no longer lasted as an active account. ( I disputed at the end of August and received my answer at the end of September).

When I pulled my scores on October 2nd, my score dropped to 608!!!

I paid all my bills on time I have (and had last month) a $0 balance on $16,000 worth of credit cards. I have a car loan with $2,900 left to pay.

The only thing that changed on my report, was 4 open accounts compared to 5 the month before.

All accounts had been updated with September's information included.

So I screwed myself  by fixing a mistake.

Is there anyway to challenge a Fico credit score???

the answer is no.  the score s calculated ased on the individual cntent of each CRA.  So be sure that the content of each CRA is correct.

Welcome to the forums!

Was the account that was deleted either your oldest account or did it's removal lower your AAoA? That would account for your score drop.

What was deleted?  Was it just the prior derog, or the entire account?  How old was the prior 120 late?

Re: Think before you correct errors...

To clarify my previous post,

My TU score went from 615 to 608.

The loan account that i disputed is still listed under "Accounts" but with "Paid or paying as agreed", instead of "120 days past due. This account always had a $0 balance, I just wanted the "120 days past due" off  there.

The other changes from Sept to Oct were:

Revolving accounts dropped from $249 to $7. (I paid them off and only have a monthly $7 service charge.)

Installment loans dropped from $3,639 to $3,531. (I have a car loan and a student loan, and paid them both on time)

Late payments dropped from 23 to 11. (im not sure why)

Accounts With Balances dropped from 5 to 4.

So I doubt my AAoA changed. I could pay off my student loans, but haven't, because I didn't want my AAoA to change.

This has seriously screwed me up. I was planning on going to the bank on Monday to apply for a loan. I have been all over this for 5 months and now find this out.

Can anyone explain why my score went down???

Re: Think before you correct errors...

You may have been rebucketed.  If the 120+ was your only serious derog, when it was removed it could have dropped you into a clean bucket.  Compared to everyone else in the clean bucket, your history may justify the score drop.  If this is the case, the good news is that you now have the ability to get a higher score with the passage of time.  Hope this helps.

Re: Think before you correct errors...

Did any of the 4 score factors change on your TU credit report on your new credit report verus the previous one?  I am also interested if the order changed if new factors are on the report. What are the two top reasons old versus new ? What you did should have improved the score not lowered the score.

We don't have enough information to do any more that speculate.
