People are living their lives here playing reindeer games to eek out 6 points in a credit score, just so they'll have something "in emergencies" or tougher times.
Indeed.
Thanks Gen, for your updates. They are greatly appreciated and eagerly awaited!
Just a heads up, should you be considering a mortgage with a score of around 633 - from experience, that's doable; however, the bank frowned on the number of credit accounts I had open with balances and suggested I close some of them out. Doing so lowered my score and put me in a higher interest rate bracket - minus the "b" would spell racket!
Speaking of rackets, after the kitchen fire, when the stove shorted out, and the neccessity of all new appliances, I was expecting my credit score to dive bomb, and though it went down by 12-15 across the board, Experian raised me a few points due to a charge, under $200, on the AmEx Blue. I swear AmEx and Experian have some sort of "thing" going. I just can't figure out what it is.

I'll be reapplying for that in the future since it was super convenient
Wow, and talk about Amex.
Anything updates O.P.?
I'm wondering the same thing. How's it going? Anything new?
BUMP***
Read through this entire thread just today...was disappointed that we seemed to lose O.P. just as his/her 0% promos were ending and s/he would be paying them back to lower util/ not pay interest for this insightful experience.
Has anyone attempted to PM gen-specific to get a response?
I'm also really curious on how OP's financial experiment turned out. I hope he/she didn't financially screw themselves by taking out that much credit and not returning it back sooner.
Sadly, it appears that the OP has not logged in since about Juanuary 9th. Hopefully he will be able to check back in with us with an update one of these days.
I think this whole thread was BS from the start. First who would do that to themselves. Second, who has done a balance transfer to a checking account? They need a 16 digit account number. And they know if it's a credit or debit card. If he did find a way he's in jail for fraud now. Just my opinion

.
I've done several Balance Transfers directly to my checking account. Most lenders allow this now. Even for those who don't it's trivial to take a no fee cash advance on my Credit Union Visa then immediately (as in the time it takes to drive from home to the bank) paid off the Visa with a BT check, which appears just like a BT because it actually is.
Regardless, thanks to whomever bumped this thread back up to the front page. I missed it when it was active and it was a fascinating read (even with the ending sadly unresolved)
