How would they tell the difference between the AU on my report from an ex-gf from ten years ago who lives in France, and a random stranger?
I find it difficult to believe that. Manual underwriting might spot something if they asked, but no way a computer would have any idea.
This was so big maybe 7 years ago that there are many safe guards that were put into place ....one way to catch it was multiple AU accounts from all over ....they all have access to public records which could show kids, parents, sisters brothers etc etc
This is just someone trying to revive an old scheme....certainly not new and well know

It's not illegal. The ethics of it could be debated, but there is nothing illegal about it.
Lg lives in different country. Probably illegal in many EU countries. Do not assume everyone lives by U.S. Rules.
Is fico used out of the us?
Somewhat, but not like in the US. Many developed countries have their own scoring system. Your US credit is meaningless for the most part in other countries, which is why you don't see too many visitors to this site from other countries. (Myfico.com itself only reports from the 3 US reporting bureaus.)
Most of the base advice is the same. Pay your bills on time, don't run up too much credit etc...
The closest credit system in Europe is probably in the UK where they have also a score based system similar to the US. I am only familiar with the German Schufa and the Swiss ZEK and these operate somehow differently. ZEK is only reporting negatives and open amounts of 3K and above. So if your report is clean then you are good to go and CLs are based on income with no punishment of maxing out CLs

I must not be popular enough
I'm actually a little insulted that I didn't get the PM. Apparently I need to work harder around here.

I too got it! From two different usernames even. I didn't think to report them, though, as I was half asleep when I opened them. I just deleted the PMs.
I didn't get a PM. I guess my scores aren't good enough or they like pictures of cards more. Nice to know it's illegal although I wouldn't add anyone who wasn't my immediate family as AUs anyway.
