Hi all!
I recently purchased my Equifax credit report from this site and I need to know how to find the actual credit report number associated with the report that I purchased. I need this report number to challenge/dispute an incorrect item that I found.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forums.
Have you tried going to "My Account" at the top of the page? Log in and you should be able to view your report.
At least this worked for me for my TU report. If this doesn't work come back here and someone with more expertise than me will help you.
From a BK years ago to:
EX - 9/09 pulled by lender 802
EQ - 7/06-663, 3/10-800
TU - 8/10-772
You can do the same thing with hard work

I can see my report just fine.
The issue is that I need the actual "report number" so I can initiate a dispute about an item listed on the report.
I can't seem to find this report number anywhere.
Unfortunately, the report numbers come on the full reports that you get (= buy) from the credit bureaus. Third-part credit monitoring services, including myFICO, don't have report numbers, or at least the report numbers for disputes.
If you haven't pulled your yearly free report from AnnualCreditReport-dot-com, you can get a number from that one.
You can dispute online without a report number, but if you want to dispute over the phone, you'll need one.
This is from the link to the EQ dispute process from a myFICO Equifax score report:
What is a Report Confirmation Number and how do I use it?
Your Report Confirmation Number can be found at the top of your Equifax credit report. It is used to help you initiate a phone dispute of your credit file information. We request it for an online dispute, but it is not required. This number allows Equifax to more easily access your credit file. Please keep this number for your records.
What if my credit report does not have a Report Confirmation Number?
You may initiate a dispute online or by mail without a Report Confirmation Number. However, if you would like to dispute by phone a Confirmation number is required. Access a free online copy of your Equifax credit report.
(The link takes you to the annual-credit-report-dot-com site.)
edited to fix bad link
At the bottom of page 4 of my TU report is a 9 digit number they call my File Identification Number. I thought that's what was needed for a dispute but that shows what I know.
I told you someone with more expertise would come along.

Oh, heck.
I think that's a different report number from the dispute number. I know that you don't get a real report number on the other credit-monitoring services I've used.

Thanks for the assistance. Looks as though I'll have to get my free report to get a report number. I'm disputing through the OC as my dispute deals with an existing account, and they told me over the phone that they require a report number in order to process the dispute on their end.
Just wish I had known I wouldnt get a report number before purchasing the report here at MyFico

My guess (and it's just a guess) is that the credit bureaus reserve that for the reports issued directly from them, since after they give the freebie, they get to charge for any additional ones.
I know that in the past I've tried using a report number from an Experian-based monthly monitoring system and was immediately shot down.
Hi Bug1984
Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble. I'm told that we don't provide that number but that you shouldn't need it to dispute if you follow the myFICO instructions for online disputing that are included with your myFICO report. Be aware that there are different bureau requirements for disputing that depend on where you purchased your report, i.e. disputing using a myFICO report may differ from disputing with a report received from AnnualCreditReport.com.
Did you follow the online disputing directions exactly as described in the myFICO report?

Slink back over here. I'm sure you're right about the difference in the numbers. After looking further I can't find anywhere that the FIN is the number used to initiate a dispute.
