I'm currently in the process of paying off balances on my CCs (dumb decisions and life circumstances necessitated living off credit for a while) and wondering if it's a good idea to hang onto the B of A Rewards even though it has a $29 annual fee. All other cards with annual fees have been closed or will be closed prior to the next annual fee being charged but they were also significantly higher ($95+), and I don't receive enough benefit to justify the annual fee. I don't anticipate needing credit but also don't want to tank my utilization any worse than it already is and I'm wondering if $29 is a small price to pay for an extra $7.5k in available credit. If it matters, I'd be closing this with a balance and paying it off within the next 6 months. My current util after closing the Chase British Airways and Delta Amex will be 58%. Closing B of A Rewards too will take me to 72% Any thoughts? Here's my current mix: B of A Rewards ($29 Fee) - $7.5k CL; 88% util B of A Americard (No Fee) - $15k CL; 85% util Chase Slate (No Fee) - $6.5k CL; 95% util Chase British Airways ($95) - $15k CL; $0% util - CLOSING w/in 30 days US Bank REI (No Fee) - $8.5k CL; 0% util Blue Sky Amex (No Fee) - $1k CL; 0% util Delta Amex ($195 Fee) - $8k CL; 0% util - CLOSING w/in 30 days Credit Union (No Fee) - $1k CL; 0% util FWIW, I've paid off $14k since March and am aggressively paying them ALL off for good.

Currently have Amex Blue Sky (no fee) want to app to Delta Reserve ($450/yr). PIF every month. CL increased from $1,000 to $3,000 automatically last month (1 yr anniv.) without me requesting. Current balance $1,200 Should I PIF before Apping? Pay partial? Strategy?

I will try the GW... at this point my options are limited. My lease is up in June and I was looking to buy in May. The DP is $10k - looking to buy a house roughly $150k. I could always wait another year - would likely have another $8-10k but I'd like to take advantage of market conditions and not continue to throw money at nothing in rent payments. :-/

Canceled ScoreWatch a year ago and just checked my FICO again. VERY disappointed with the results. Only at 740!!! I was hoping for at least 760 as I'm looking to buy a house in May/June and don't have a huge DP. Was hoping CR/FICO would help me out a bit. Any thoughts for bettering credit over the long term? AAoA: 6 years Oldest Acct: 18 Years Last Late Payment: 3 Years, 8 Months (90 days tho - eek!) Revolving Accts: $121 ( < 10% hits every month, PIF) Installment: $25,878 - Two student loans (private) and a car note, NO lates on any of these. All in all, I've made a ton of progress since 2008, but I want MORE!!!!

Anyone have any idea of Amex does a hard pull for PC? I'm looking to switch from Blue Sky to Delta Gold but also buying a house in the next 3-6 months so can't afford the hard pull.

I had high util only if you count AU cards. On my personal cards util is below 10%. That being said, I received an acceptance letter dated March 16th several days ago, then on Thursday I received a denial letter dated March 22. I checked online and when I input my social and zip it still says approved... going to wait a week before calling again. Don't want to send up any red flags as they agreed to backdate the card to 1994 - the starting date of another card I was an AU on.

Just means the rep didn't actually have the power to do it and had to send it up the chain to get it approved. I'd give it a 50/50 chance.

Obviously this guy is an oddity, but it brings up a good point: Should banks declined based on total available credit? Does having too much credit available (regardless of credit history) present an unnecessary risk at some point? Seems like 1.7 million would be past that line (if there is such a line)...

I applied over the weekend for a Blue Sky CC and was denied on the web. I called the Executive Offices yesterday and asked for a reconsideration. The woman said she'd contact the credit department and would have an answer for me by the end of the day. I never heard back so I assumed that meant no. I was going to follow-up this morning and when checking the website it shows APPROVED! No idea on CL but I'll wait til I get the card before checking. :-) Congratulations! Your application has been approved and you should receive your new card within 7-10 days.
