My profile/FICO was fed a chapter 13 that finally digested and isn't reporting any more. While the SLs were exciting, it was the low apr on the NFCU card that was the icing on the cake. With no balance transfer fees I can get my points on the other cards and transfer any balances I want to carry for a few months to the NFCU card and cut the interest in half. Feeling pretty blessed.

Thanks..it was a long and hard road wIth an awesome payoff. I was really surprised to get the CSP with a sl of $26k considering that my two rebuilders only had $1600 and $2100. I thought canceling them would drop my FICO temporarily since they were the only two cards I had and it would affect my history length.

It has been a great two weeks for me. Approved for CSP for $25.9k a week ago and NFCU Platinum Mastercard at $24k today with an 8.49% APR. I was also approved for the HHonors Amex Surpass, but only at $4k. I was a little disappointed by the Amex SL but after reading the forums I will wait the 61 days and request a 3xCLI. I cancelled the two secured cards I had (Merrick/OpenSky) so I can get my $3k back. Im sure I will take a hit for the 3-4 inquiries and cancelling the only two cards I had for the past two years, but hope that the new CLs will make up for it. Im at 0% utilization currently. These are the only cards I want so I am done cc shopping for the foreseeable future.

Timing is everything. Mine was off by a mere 6 hours. Didn't realize that if I had applied in a branch yesterday (2 block from my house) vs online last night I would have been eligible for 100k points instead of 50k. Promo ended yesterday .

I was really struggling between the reserve and preferred and didn't see the reserve being that much more beneficial for me. Just curious how came to a difference of only $55. I calculated $150. I also saw that the reserve adds $75 a year for an authorized user (wife) and the preferred doesn't.

Just got approved for a Chase Sapphire Preferred for $26k. Looking for one more card and I'm done.I'll use the Sapphire for all expenses for the points but just want a second card for any other general purpose, hopefully with some interesting perks. Im told Amex is generous with CLIs so maybe i will go that route. Can't see the value in gold/platinum based in the AFs. Any words of wisdom?

I currently have two credit cards (OpenSky, Merrick @ $2000 each) and am ready to make the leap to two respectable cards that will offer real CLIs. These cards served their purpose but It is time to retire them and get my deposit back once I have added 2 others. My main motivation is travel points but I'm finding the options confusing. I originally wanted a Hilton Honors Surpass but now I am uncertain. I'm divided between accumulating points under the Hilton brand or getting a card that accumulates points in general and having the freedom to use them wherever, albeit at a lower accumulation rate. I don't often pay for Hilton stays as I am required to use my government travel card, but still manage to accrue a lot of them through the HH program. I want to take a vacation to the Caribbean with the family at least once a year and use the points to offset or pay for it. I usually look for the best fare and schedule, so not airline specific. Thought about a Delta Skymiles card but once again not sure if I should lock myself in to only using them. I'd appreciate recommendations on cards, possible initial CLs, and opinions on the direction to go from here. Scores are in my signature and income is $130k with the only debt being a mortgage. If there is any more info I can provide I will gladly do so. Thanks in advance..

I appreciate all of the advice and words of encouragement. I think I will go ahead and pull the trigger on both apps. I will probably cancel both secured cards very shortly thereafter. My income is about $130k with no debt other than a mortgage so I'm hoping for a decent CL.

Thank you for the fast reply. They are with OpenSky and Merrick Bank. There has been a little unsecured growth (approx $500 each) since we opened them a year and a half ago. Since our FICO just shot up I guess it is possible that they may both offer more unsecured growth in the next few months, but I don't believe the potential of these cards is very great. Im not too concerned about DTC ratio as a never have high balances on the cards.

Super excited that my wife and I ran our credit today and I was elated to see an 80 point increase(scores in signature) in my FICO due to our chapter 13 BK falling off our report..We show no negative or derogatory accounts now. I have two secured credit cards with zero balances with limits of $2000 each. Thinking I want to get a Delta Skymiles and a Hilton Honors card for our vacations. Assuming I apply and am approved for both of these, any advice on how long to wait to cancel my secured cards to have minimal impact on my score? Sure would like to get my $3000 deposit back. Can anyone shed light on the maximum limits for Delta Skymiles and Hilton Honors visa or Amex? Thanks in advance.

Your question is pretty general. To get quality answers you should try to be more specific. Are you bringing a down payment to the table? If so how much? What price range are you looking in? Is it you purchasing alone, or with a spouse? With those scores you should have plenty of options as long as your DTI ratio and income are sufficient for the price range your are interested in.

My wife and I are purchasing a new home under construction now. We financed through USAA and were offered a no doc 100% (80/20) for $440k. I was so excited that we qualified for the no-doc 100%, that when they told me the rate was 6.75% fixed and wanted to know if I wanted to lock it, I immediately said yes. Now I am wishing I hadn't. My wifes mid score was the lower of ours, and it has increased from 665 to 702 (FICO) since we qualified. I can't help but think we could probably qualify for a lower rate with her new scores. There is also the chance the rates could drop again before we close on Nov 29th. While the term lock seems pretty self explanatory, does it work both ways? If the rates drop or we qualify for lower, am I still committed to the higher rate? Since I paid for the lock it would seem that I paid to ensure I dont get a higher rate, not prevent me from getting a lower.

I would suggest you have him pull his FICO scores. The scores you listed are from TC, aka FAKOs. There could be a drastic difference in the two.

It should definately help your FICO score. Just make sure you get a personal loan with a decent rate, and not one of the "consumer loans" mentioned on this forum. Apparently those can have more of a negative effect your score. Just make sure you dont run up the cards again. The new account impact on your CR should be gone by the time you are ready to buy a home. As mentioned many times on here, aim for 1-9% util on each card, as well as overall, for the best FICO score.

The lower middle score of the two applicants seems to be the way things are done now. Seems to be the lenders excuse not to offer you their best rate. Odd to me that you could have anywhere from an 850 down to a 700, but if your spouses score is 699, yours are irrelevent for the rate.

With the scores we have I am still quite surprised that it went through no docs. We were fully prepared to disclose everything. We locked in @ 6.75% (80) and 8.75% (20).

My wife and I were just approved for 100% financing (80/20 fixed P&I) on our new home under contract for $464K.....with no docs!!!!!! This was not a pre-approval, this was the application approval. They used our credit history (her mid 665, my mid 698) and my great standing with them to make the underwriting decision. I have zero balances on most of my cc's, and they appear to still update each month on TrueCredit. Do I still need to charge a purchase each month to keep the cards active? They appear to remain active without any monthly charges. And yes, I am aware of the ideal 1-9% utilization for max score.

Do any of the mortgage folks on here have any info on the Fannie Mae programs that are currently offered? I have searched and searched the internet to no avail. Seems like they keep the guidelines and programs a secret and force yu to talk to a Fannie Mae approved broker for info. Thanks in advance.

Buying term is the way to go. You can invest the difference in the monthly premium between the two, and have a lot more money waiting for you if you invest correctly. With a whole life policy you are giving the insurance company your money at wholesale rates and they are investing it on their behalf and getting retail returns. Makes more sense to cut out the middle man and invest in high yield investments yourself. On another note, life insurance is designed to be income replacement during the earlier years that you have it. The policy coverage should be decreased over time as your families income replacement needs decrease (you do plan on generating more income in the future than you do now I assume?) The income replacement needs should eventually reach zero if you have your investments and retirement planned correctly. Life insurance is not supposed to be a lottery for your family if something happens to you.

USAA is the greatest by far: 2 auto loans 2 auto insurance policies 2 homeowners policies 1 mastercard 1 amex 1 checking acct 1 savings acct 1 personal property insurance policy 1 renters insurance policy They are my one stop shop, and have been really good to me for the past 6 years. I also enjoy getting the dividend checks they divy out once a year.

Update....I applied for a Citibank debt consolidation loan and was denied!...They said they denied me for too many inquiries on EQ?? Apparently my 700 medium score wasnt good enough for them...Anyone know of a debt consolidation lender that has more relaxed quals, but doesnt have a ridiculous rate (I am trying to refi a citifinancial loan @ 25% + remaining revolving debt of $10,000, for a total of $17k)

Have you looked into an FHA loan? Your scores would be fine with them, and since you have 10% to put down, it would make it even easier.

I guess I am not explaining it clearly. The current personal loan I have is through citifinancial @25%. Getting a new personal loan will eliminate the current personal loan and allow me to pay off my cc's.
