Xaiduz's Credit Rebuilding Journey (with UPDATES)

[UPDATES]

  • Started this journey on 5/8/2014!
  • 06/03/2014: Updated to include table and make things MUCH cleaner and easier to understand. Smiley Happy Also note that I will add strike-throughs to accounts that have been dealt with.
  • 10/21/2014: DCS Financial $50k Collection has dropped off. WOOHOO!

So I began following these forums a few months ago, but only recently became a member and began posting, mostly needing help figuring out how everything works. Well, with all the new information I have, I would like to share my current credit reports and my plans to fix them. Any direct contact info for any of the collection agencies would be greatly appreciated, as would any advice. I'm still fairly new to all of this, so I'm willing to hear what everyone has to say.  All collections are from uncovered medical debt, aside from one charge-off from a CU.

[EDIT] I live in Washington state. The SOL for written contracts is 6 years, oral contracts are 3 years, and medical collections are 3 years.

Re: My 10 collections, 1 CO, and how I'll fix them?

I know that Suntrust bank doesn't use Chexsystems if you have issues with not being able to get it off. There are other banks as well.

I see you have done offers for some of the newer things, I'm not sure if that's going to work because you could always get sued for the remaining balance.

I haven't sent anything yet, but I wanted to post here before I did. What is the point of the PFD if the CA can turn around and sue you for the remaining amount after agreeing in writing to delete from the CRAs that it was paid in full?? :/ MAybe I'm missing something... There's always more to learn. Smiley Tongue And I'm not sure there's a Suntrust anywhere near me in Washington State. I've never heard of them and lived here my entire life.

Re: My 10 collections, 1 CO, and how I'll fix them?

The statue of limitations allows them to still sue you. Sure they'll settle but then get the rest of their money later. That's why for me, when things are too high for me to pay in conjunction with my other bills, I just set up payment plans for deletion. LOL. It works for me.

Re: My 10 collections, 1 CO, and how I'll fix them?

Well, I have three that I most definitely can't pay. But I was planning on sending the DV letters this August, when the SOL is up for the big ones (totaling nearly $52,000), since the SOL for Washington state is 6 years. But the others I plan on saving up the full amount for the ones under $100 to pay within the next month or so, then gradually paying the other ones off. I just read that you can settle for less since they pay pennies on the dollar for your debts, and that would be better for me.

Re: My 10 collections, 1 CO, and how I'll fix them?

A friend if mine works at Chase and says if you are turned down due to CS, they have an alternative account you can open. Not sure what all if the details are, but maybe check into it?

I'll look into Chase, but I really don't like them, or BofA. Had bad experiences with them. :/

I just remembered that Wells Fargo has a second chance banking as well, you just have to ask for it and it will upgrade after a year or so.

Re: My 10 collections, 1 CO, and how I'll fix them?

Try a local credit union, in my eyes they are better then a bank. A bank has share holders and a credit union has members which allow them to give better rates since they don't have shareholders. Most credit unions are forgiving in the sense that if you have a bad mark on check systems as long as it isn't with in a time frame they can approve you for a builder account.

Good luck to you!!!

Re: My 10 collections, 1 CO, and how I'll fix them?

Would the fact that my charge-off was with my old credit union affect another credit union from opening an account? I was with them for 5 years no problem, then things came up one after another... *sigh*

I have paid the charge-off to the CA since when I tried to pay my CU directly, they told me they couldn't take payment anymore, and gave me the number to call the CA, saying I had to go through them. That was the first week of April (When I got the info and paid)... CU still hasn't received the check from the CA 6 weeks later, and I'm getting mixed answers from both sides. Does anyone know how this should be working and if the CU will remove the CO from Chexsystems/CRAs once they get the check?
