Hey Gang,
Had a strange thing happen yesterday after finishing up my recent "spree". Used my invite and applied for the X1 (approved, SL $24K) Venmo VS (approved, SL $11K) and AMEX BCP. But AMEX replied with an email saying "We're currently reviewing your request, but before we can finish, we need more information..." then they listed a 800 number to call during business hours. I only thought it was strange because I usually just get a flat denial from them 🤣 (I called, but robo-lady said call back Mon - Fri, 6am-8pm)
As you might have guessed (unfortunately) I burned them right after college many moons ago (20+ yrs) for about $2K on an AMEX Gold Card. Ever since, I'm sure I've been on their "bad-boy" list (perhaps rightfully so) and I've tried hard to get back in. Years later, even when my profile was decent with no derogatories, lates, or charge-offs, scores in the mid to low 700's (EXP: 731) with income near $100K, I still couldn't get an approval despite approvals from numerous others. Then yesterday...
Today my particulars aren't as great: TU: 678, EX: 686, EQ: 695 / High 32% Util / Total Lines: listed below. But nothing adverse in reports except UTIL and recent HPs (5 of 'em). Closed on a mortgage last year and had 3 new credit accounts in the last 10 months. So my question is: What gives? Am I still being considered...or should I just quietly go back to the garden and try again next year?
Thanks in advance !!

I have no experience with this--I've never received a message like yours--but my guess is that they're at least considering you, which is a good sign! At least it's not a flat-out denial. I'd wait to see what the CSR has to say on Monday and go from there. It could be something really trivial, like confirming your middle initial or house number, and doesn't necessarily mean it's going to end up being declined. Please post an update!
OP, I would reach out to them tomorrow (as instructed) in order to determine what additional information they may need. Unfortunately, we could all go into a speculation rabbit hole of potential reasons which may not be the actual issue, so it's best to get it from the horses mouth and provide an update once you know more information.
Last few requests I've seen (for other members) turned out to be "was it really you who applied for increase"
At least one was denied after ID verification, so if that's what this is, it's just a step one.
Thanks @SoCalGardener! I'll definately post an update as soon as I get something...
Will do @FinStar Thx!
Well FICOFam -
I got approved for the AMEX BCP (SL $1K @ 12.99 APR). The CSR just needed additional info to verify identity...which also included a callback. They added my "Member Since 1981" to the card they're sending. And even though I know it's cosmetic, it still feels nice 😁
I'm happy I seem to be off the blacklist. AENB isn't the best issuer (I prefer PenFed and BoA), but they're the only ones I really wanted to get back after my credit rebuild. Thanks to everyone on the forums for the great info and advice!
Now I think I have some gardening to do, lol 😎
