AMEX pre-approval

I tried the AMEX pre-approval and was pre-appoved to apply for their Delta Skymiles card and the AMEX green card.  I am disappointed that the I wasn't preapproved for their cash back card but I wanted to know what you guys thought of the preappoved cards.  I did want a travel card but I am unsure if this one is right for me.  Should I apply or wait for better offers?

I'm too nervous to apply on a cold app.  I have a great fear of rejection and tend to sulk for a while after. Smiley Sad  So regarding the cards they pre-qualified be for, what are your thoughts on them?  Is the AMEX pre-qualifier pretty solid or shaky at best?

Re: AMEX pre-approval

It was solid for me. I was pre-a for ED, BCE and PRG. I wanted SPG and Delta. So I apped and was approved for ED. I cold apped for SPG and was approved. Now, as my luck has it, I'm pre-a for Delta but I'm in the garden being guarded by 4 mean garden ninjas. So I will hold off on Delta until we find out the fate of the SPG.

Sidenote: we all hate rejection but sometimes the thrill out ways it lol!

Re: AMEX pre-approval

I've only ever been approved for a pre-qualified AMEX (Gold Delta).  All the cold apps have been declined, but this was most likely because of the cards I was applying for--a little out of my FICO range.

My partner applied for a pre-qualified offer and was denied, so it's not a for sure thing--more a suggestion from AMEX.

If it helps you feel better about the application, I was approved for my Gold Delta with an EX score of 633 and about 50% utilization with some late payments, collections, and a charge off all about 3 years ago.  Not a great credit profile, but I was still approved.

Payding down debt to prep for a mortgage.

Cards in my wallet: Amex Gold, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Lowes Advantage

Sock drawer: Lots of old store cards and not great no-rewards cards for history and utilization padding, some lame no AF cards I drunk-apped

Next Cards: AMEX Everyday and Chase Freedom?

Re: AMEX pre-approval

I might just say what the heck and go for it.  I will wait to see how I feel tomorrow.  Congrats on your approval!  I would love to have a premeier card like AMEX but I want to make sure that the cards I get during my rebuild are cards I would actually use and benefit from.

Do you think I can apply for both since one is a charge card and the other is a credit card?  I have been holding out for a Discover It but Discover does not seem to like me.

Re: AMEX pre-approval

I have only ever been ore-approved for a Merrick Card.

Got a $7k SL Discover Card, $2k SL Chase FU and a few weeks ago, the AMEX BCE.

Pre-approvals are nice, but had I waited for one, I might never have gotten the ones I have with the limits I got.

Good luck! Smiley Happy
