I want to add the Amex Platinum Card to my wallet, as I travel a lot for work and think the access to the Centurion Lounges would more than be worth the $695 annual fee. My question is - for those of you that were approved for it, where was your credit score at time of approval?
I'm at a 670 credit score, with my only baddie falling off my report at the end of January, which I hope will increase my score to above 700, or just around it. Also, as of Feb. 2024, I'll have a proven track record with Amex Delta for 4 years. I've never missed a payment, used HEAVY spend on my account, though I haven't paid off the balance every month.
When I login to the credit card page, I do get a message that says "You May Qualify to Open the American Express Gold Card", and when I click the "Apply Now" button for the Platinum card, I see the message "Know if you're approved for this Card with no impact to your credit score". I know in the past if it said "Expand your membership.." that would mean you're not preapproved. Does the above mean the same, or is there a better chance that I could be preapproved?
If your score is in the neighborhood of 700, I believe you'll be approved. Mine was in the high 600's when I got an Amex Business Platinum.
Thank you for the insight! I'm sitting at 670 for my Experian 8 right now, but hope that when my last "baddie" falls ouff my report at the end of the month, that the removal will boost me to 700+, or right around there. Too bad that Amex doesn't update their reports for a while after Experian does. ![]()
I'm trying to be patient not only to better my chances at approval, but also to better my terms. (POT limit, etc)

I don't think you would have any trouble being approved for it now, as the Platinum card is easier to qualify for than any of their credit cards, but you will definitely get a better SL and POT limit, and maybe qualify for a better SUB if you wait.

Oh yeah! I saw that there is a 100k points SUB after 8k spend in the first 6 months if you apply through Resy.com. I thought I would take that approach if/when I do apply, as the Amex website is only offering 80k.
Read terms and conditions of some of those elevated offers carefully, and make sure the one you are using doesn't have the "up to" wording in it, or you may find you still only get the 80k SUB.
That has become a thing with AmEx lately...
