Re: Amex & Experian Score

You are right. The goal is to get in the door first. I thought Amex would HP when apping for a card like most companies. Ive been waiting this long if I am denied another month is nothing!

I also do not fly often. Last time I flew was last summer! But this might give motivation to actually travel. The miles can definitely come in handy and getting my foot in the door would be amazing. Even if its not a big SL.

Question if I apply for the Amex Delta Gold can I sign up with the 50K bonus I received by email? Is it worth a shot? I already have a Delta rewards account.

Also when you were approved for the Delta Gold you seen in your account information that you were pre approved for the Hilton card right after?

Re: Amex & Experian Score

I started with the EveryDay card.  Got a pre-qualified to apply offer in the mail.  SL of $5000 with EX score of around 670 IIRC.  It was my first "Major" card.  I had been rebuilding with only a Cap One Platinum and Buypowercard for a couple years prior.

Re: Amex & Experian Score

Yes, apply for the card with the SUB. Worst case, maybe they approve you but not with the SUB if your qualifications don’t warrant it.

As for my approvals, I did not see a prequal for the Hilton card. I hit on the Delta app and figured I’d swing for the fences and try for the Hilton too since it’d be an approval on the same HP if I got it. I just was feeling my oats and said screw it, why not try? As it happened, it was a risk well worth taking.

Re: Amex & Experian Score

The average low score approval for a gold is 640. I think I had a 637 when I got in, but my report is dirty. It will be a hard pull and any additional cards will be a hard pull for the first month. After that, they will start using the soft pulls they do for maintenance and your internal score to pre-approve you. A lot of people are able to get a second card in about 30 days. I was not. Don't bother with the blue. The gold has the AF waived for the first month. You can downgrade to blue next year if you don't find yourself using it enough to offset the AF.

Re: Amex & Experian Score

Should also note that you don't have to wait 30 days after a denial. I've apped in as little as 9 days after my score changed.

So I gave in and app'd for the Delta Gold. I was unfortunately denied. I knew that it was a high chance of denial. Amex stated the reason for the denial was because my score is 621! LOL... I was hit with an HP, blah. I noticed when I pressed the final submit application that it started processing and finished but stayed on that last page where it shows rates, apr, fees... at the top of that it shows "Info...Submit App...Additional info" except my application did not go to the additional info. So I felt like it that was the automatic denial. Very interesting.

I caved and went for it. I was denied due to my score being 621 Smiley Sad
