PenFed brought up a repo from 30 years ago. My ex let it go back and never told me.
Heck, I had forgotten who even financed the thing.
There were only a few payments left on that 1984 Plymouth

Exactly they brought it up on me. However in my case. i just cashed the check and never bought the car. I bought another car with the money so they were out of luck. Fico was in its infancy at the time. I remember the dealer just made up a bunch of numbers and submitted it to penfed. Approved. Maybe because i was in the ARmy at the Time it was not an Issue. 30 years ago. Yikes.

The good news is.....if you decide you want to pay them back, they will let you back in. Me personally, I would have tried for the Delta Gold...its the easiest, and also, you should know this by now, you've been on the forums awhile....the soonest they will let you back after a bK is 5 yrs. Youre 4 yrs post....try for the Delta in June 2017, and see what happens Smiley Wink

Remember Don Draper? He was nice to people, and we could identify with his situation. Of course his emotions spilled over sometimes for not making up to whom it mattered. Not paying back Amex, we could say here. Even $30 with Chase is a pain. So I’m glad to hear the good news.

Re: Amex has a long memory!

Arlo, I was in the army as well and the dealer (AAFES) in West Germany did the paperwork for me. I was young and the payment was an automatic draft from my pay so I just didn't pay attention. It all went to pot when my marriage broke up

Re: Amex has a long memory!

When I leave the garden I may just give them a try just for grins. They were included in my Chapter 13, but received a negotiated payment. We'll see. If they don't waste a hp then I might consider testing the waters, just for fun. Or not. lol

Re: Amex has a long memory!

Many of you already know this, but I'll add here that I included a Green card in my BK7 back in 2000.  I figured Amex would be forever out of reach (I never paid them back) but I app'd back in April to get a free credit report... and was approved.  I was shocked, and knew just enough then to know I could possibly get a second card on the same HP, and I was approved for the BCP with a $1k limit, and the highest APR once the promo is over.

To be clear, they didn't forget anything... I've tried three times (!) for a CLI, and each time they've sent me a letter that it's denied due to "Past experience with an American Express account".  I've decided not to try again until after I cancel the Green in April (it's just not useful) and if denied again I'll try for a ED card.  If approved for an ED, I'll transfer the credit line from it after a year.

As a side note, just a few months after my BK7 I was given an Amex Corp card by my employer, which I carried for several years.  I have no idea if this made a difference or not (I realize I was never personally responsible for the bill) but I do know when I talked to a CSR about the Corp card they could see everything.  The Corp card CSR never proactively mentioned the IIBK card back then, but one time they referenced an old address that was only associated with the IIBK Green account, so they definitely 'connected' them.

To those folks who want a second chance, don't give up.  I don't think any of us here have 'cracked the code' yet, but I can personally say that some folks are able to get back in, eventually.  Smiley Wink

Re: Amex has a long memory!

Thanks for all the replies! You guys are always very helpful. The more I think about it, I shouldn't feel bad about it at all, at this point. I guess I really just wanted a card for the sake of having one, but as far as credit goes, I've got many other ways to pay. Amex is dead to me and that will be my reality, unless I get a preapproval in the mail or on website at some point. Life is too short to let this get me down, especially with all the progress I have already made....and there has been a lot of progress. I'll count my many blessings. Smiley Happy
