Re: Applying for a AMEX Personal Credit Card

@SouthJamaica@ I believe @leo187um mentioned one of the cards is USB. I'm not personally familiar with their policies but I think they're one of the banks that report off statement. Balance at last/first day of month or something like that.  If doing AZEO and that is one of the zero cards paid before reporting, be sure to look into when they report, it may not be statement date you need to be sure it's zero, it may be month end.  USB card holders can offer more advice on that but thought I'd mention it before any unexpected surprises happen.

Re: Applying for a AMEX Personal Credit Card

Thank you guys for the feedback/ advice.

so if my long term goal is to get high likiy business credit cards, what should my next credit card be? In Dec 2023 I will be 3/24 in terms of the Chase 5/24 rule... should I get like a Sapphire Reserve and then the Business INk? Or should I get the Amex platinum and then an Amex business gold or platinum card?

I registered my LLC in July 2022 just fyi...

If your ultimate goal is to get high limit business credit cards with no foreign transaction fees, I think the shortest path to that would be an Amex platinum card, either the business version or the personal version, depending on whether your travel to Japan is personal or business, and depending on whether or not you want to avoid its counting towards Chase 5/24. IMHO the underwriting standards for the platinum are surprisingly low, probably because they like that juicy annual fee.  The travel perks with that card are unparalleled.

The Chase Ink Preferred is a great card in my book but Chase is a tough nut to crack. As you have been told by others, but find hard to believe, it is true that deposits into a Chase deposit account will not help you there.

Re: Applying for a AMEX Personal Credit Card

Ok I heard it's better to apply for Amex personal before getting the business... Hurd after a certain time then apply to chase...

I don't know. I had a business version, never had a personal version. Bear in mind that if you're approved, the personal version would count towards Chase 5/24, while the business version wouldn't.

For me the primary consideration would be a bookkeeping one:  whether the big expenditures on the platinum card would be chargeable to the business or not. If your big travel expenditures would be directly for your company, I would definitely go with the business version.

Re: Applying for a AMEX Personal Credit Card

Assuming I keep my fico score at a 730 for a year, I would have 2 year credit history.. would I be likely to be approved for a platinum business without the personal? I have no relationship or history with Amex ... wouldn't mind getting the Amex personal if my probability is higher.. wouldn't want to apply to a business gold/credit and get dinged just to get an inquiry and have to wait again...

Assuming I get approved for an Amex in Dec 2023, Il be at 4/24... I still have room to apply to Chase... by 7/2024 Il be at 1/24 ..

[...]I know you only have 3 cards. I'm saying there should be 2 zero balances reporting, and 1 small balance reporting. And the card reporting the balance should not be the Chase card, but one of the other 2.   Sorry if I was less than clear.

Why is that?

Re: Applying for a AMEX Personal Credit Card

Also, if i need to garden and cannot apply for a year anyways... is it ok if I get lax on my BOA utilization over the next couple of months (to take advantage of the 0pct apr) as long as I'm at 1-4pct come application time?

So again, this is still talking down the line, after you gardened for 9-12 or more months...

With Chase, get the Ink FIRST, then the CSR (great cards, I have both).

I'd space out at least 3 months between Amex charge cards regardless of what they are, to allow you to focus on knocking out the SUBs etc. Do you really need both personal Platinum and buisness Platinum? They do differ slightly, but not enough for most people unless someone else is picking up the AF for you.

In regards to Chase vs Amex app order... there is a bit of a blind spot. Chase is counting PERSONAL accounts you opened, which is different than your inquiry total. So business cards that do not report to your personal credit will be invisible to them. In addition, cards that have NOT YET shown up on your credit will be invisible to them. And if Amex is not hard-pulling, because you already have a card with them, it's even more invisible. HOWEVER is is ENTIRELY possible for Chase to yank back the card they issued you if your report has a bunch of credit-seeking behavior show up in the months following them approving you.

So if you decide to poke the bear, be aware it can bite your hand off.

Luckily, I kept my hand... I opened  both AmEx BBP and Chase Ink on the same day, and one month later Amex BCP and CSR and Elan MCPx2 the same day... it worked for me, but I realized I was lucky.

Re: Applying for a AMEX Personal Credit Card

So with my current three credit cards and gardening for a year, you guys think it's not risky for me to go straight to the business ink / Amex platinum business without getting a personal card?

This credit YouTuber said get a personal Amex before going business

.. so just thinking about the risk..
