That sounds like a logical reason to me. The article didn’t give a reason, and I had to chuckle because it sounds like nonsense other than your reasoning of potential for error.
Banks utilize similar architectures used to integrate front end applications or facades to back end systems that perform all the necessary processes to underwrite and price a product. No matter the front end be it Web, Mobile or other they all call the same services reaching the same backend systems. This means the same results. Mobile apps have been lighter weight in the past and this may have meant less entry validation, but that has and is changing across the top lenders. Mobile apps are catching up to and will soon be as robust as Web sites. The trick is usability on a smaller screen and thumb-type entry. Probably more than you wanted to know...
