No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
I applied friday, didn't get an immediate approval, today I checked the application status and it says they cannot offer me a card at the moment. Which I find weird since I have a good score (750), zero late payments and an Amex Gold.
My credit history is only 18 months old, and I'm not a US citizen, but that wasn't a problem in the past.
Should I call recon line?
Should I even bother applying for the City AAdvantage card? I initially applied to the Barclays because I was told it had better approval odds than the Citi one... I have a flight coming and really need that free bag
Only have one card?
Need thicker and diverse credit + longer history for Citi and Barclays premium/travel cards, typically
Call recon
Amex will probably give you something if you're interested and apply, like a Platinum with incidental credit may be relevant
No, I also have a Discover It Student and a Deserve.
Amex Gold is the only "premium" card
Interesting that someone told you that it's easier to be approved for a BarclayUS card than Citi. BarclayUS is a notoriously quirky lender who prefers applicants with thick profiles and with minimal application history over the last 24 months in general and especially over the last 6 months.
Call and ask for reconsideration tomorrow during business hours. If they still deny you go ahead and ask them if they can suggest what you might want to do in order to improve your odds of approval in 6-12 months.
If there's one thing going for you is that Barclays, no matter how infamously well known for being a quirky lender is that they have the best recon. Use that to your benefit.

well, literally every credit card travel expert says it's easier to get the barclays... anyway, I called today and they asked for my 4506-T
too much work for me, so I applied for the Citi AAdvantage and was approved immediately with a CL of 5700$ LMAO
I gladly take the L on the two HP, but I'll have time to recover

Many of the travel experts are incentivised by issuers to project their cards in a positive light.
Congratulations on your approval!

Cool, congrats!
The bold part is the one reason why I don't listen to VLOGers who are more often than not getting monetary kickback for promoting said products. If I want a truer pulse on something I go to MyFicoForums.
Interesting feedback on Barclay's Approvals being easier....
Anyhow, CONGRATS on your Citi AA card. That's gotta feel much better. I just got that card myself and the SUB is pretty nice. The other benefit to Citi over Barclays is Citi does SP CLI's and Barclays does not! Yes, Barclay's will sometimes give out auto-CLI's but suffice to say, that is likely not as often or as generous as requesting from Citi via SP....at least based on all the DP's here.
Congrats on your alternate approval.
