CLI Denial from Capital One

I recently got in with Capital One on their steps program and saw that many people asked for a CLI after a couple months and got. I tried, but got a an email saying that I have too many inquiries right now. I am due for the CLI in May, I hope that my early request doesn't mess it up Smiley Sad

I wouldn't poke capital one at all right now with everything they have been doing lately. Times are definelty changing over there. It shouldn't mess with your steps program though.

Re: CLI Denial from Capital One

I have read some posts about Capital One lowering credit limits. I hope you are right and that I still do get my CLI in May with the steps program!

You'll get it, as long as you make the on time payments and your credit doesn't go down the dumper overnight with new lates, chargeoffs, collections or any new derogatory mark.

During the "steps program" the early increase comes after 3 statements and then you steps increase after the 6th statement. Sounds like you haven't had the card for 3 statements yet. The decrease of credit limits are happening to those with 10k or more that aren't using the limits.

You are correct. They have not touched mine yet. I did a no hassle check for almost 18k about three months back. I have paid it down to 6k...

Today I made a big purchase on my Venture for 6k...Which I will pay that charge before the closing date. So with my spend I hope they won't slash me, but who knows, they still could.

Re: CLI Denial from Capital One

I don't have any charge offs or negatives left, I think I may have had 2 or 3 when I first got the card, but I disputed and they were removed. I was approved for the card in October, but I didn't use it until late November, so that may be what messed things up. I used it maybe twice and then paid off the balance in full. I went another month without charging anything, so I went ahead and used it this week and will pay it off when it posts to the account in a couple days.

It's interesting too see the cycles that banks go through as they respond/ react to market trends and conditions.  AA is not just the cornerstone of a few select banks anymore. Comenity, Synch, Barclays, and now Cap 1 have all cycled through AA.

Remember that stupid duck  card?  Talk about AA!

OP, fwiw, You're going to be fine with credit steps.  If I were you,  I would try again after your third statement as has already been suggested.

Re: CLI Denial from Capital One

I am a little confused! As I said, I was due for a CLI to $500 in May, with the steps program, but I attempted to get an early increase and was declined over "Too many recent inquiries" and this morning when I signed on to pay my bill, my account was raised from $300 to $500 Do you think that maybe they gave me the CLI early for the steps program since they promised the increase to $500 in May? I know it isn't much, but since I am in the garden and working on forming an excellent history of payments and SP CLI's I am thrilled Smiley Happy

Re: CLI Denial from Capital One

I'm not happy with Cap1, have been with them for over 16 years, 4 cards, never late, the last CLI Cap1 gave me was $500, what a joke, if i add all the cards CL, I'm barely at 10k. I apply for a Amex last December got a approval for 10k, 61 days later, I'm at 30k, guess what?? all my Cap1 cards are in the drawers.
