Hi guys. My FICO score just hit 727 and I am being shown through experience for the first time lots of Amax offers.
However, I do not want to pick one that is not going to qualify me and get turned down.
My Experian is 718. My TU is higher.
A little bit about my credit.I have $6700 in total open credit with a Chase Amazon prime card, an Apple card and a small Capital One card.
I have no Late payments and I have no collections on my account.
My credit history is fairly new and I closed a mortgage in January so I am past the six month mark of payments. I think I’m seven payments in.
I have a small installment account with affirm. That’s about $35 a month and I have a Bread pay loan for an appliance that is about $130 a month. I have no car loan.
I do have a few inquiries on my report so that’s a negative and the age of my credit accounts is not super old so that is a negative.
These are the AMEX accounts that experience is saying that I am pre-approved for,
American Express® Gold Card
The Platinum Card® from American Express
Hilton Honors American Express Card
Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express
Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card
Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card
Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card
Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express CardMarriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card

Welcome to the forum.
What do you want to get out of your next card period?
Points for travel? cashback? "Prestige?"
I would not focus on getting an Amex just for the namesake of itself.
Thanks for the warm welcome!
So what I am looking for mainly are two things that draw me to amex.
I want a higher spending limit so that I can run my balances lower percentage wise when I have to carryover a purchase into the next month.
A $1500 card is kinda constricting when I have to say, replace a water heater for $700 and it puts me at 50% usage if I can't pay it off before the cycle flips.
I also like that amex seems to offer a lot of buyer protection. In disputes, amex often will side with the customer and I have been burned by vendors before so that part is a nice perk.
Perks such as cashback or travel is nice, but not a must have. It's just nice.
I don't care about prestige as I won't be showing off my cards.
Gotcha - looking for more available credit to keep UTI reasonable.
The Plat and Gold probably won't be good as these are Charge cards (the balance is expected to paid in full.)
Gotcha.
So any of the others would be a better bet,

The underwriting on them is all about the same, except that platinum and gold are a little easier to get, but I think your scores are good enough to get any of them. Since you don't have a need for a travel card I would suggest the Blue Cash Everyday card; I know it's not on the preapproval list you gave us, but I think it's a better value than the BCP with its annual fee.
@edgebslWelcome to the Forum,
I get you want to diversify your credit portfolio and there is noting wrong with that! Others have made good recommendations as which card to look for. However AMEX prefer to see 12 months of credit reporting on your profile! If you can wait and plan that once 12th months is reported, then you can even set yourself up for 3X CLI in 91 days.
Good luck 👍
Blue cash everyday for sure
So wait, are you saying AMEX will deny unless they see that there are 12 mortgage payments or that there is 12 months+ in general of history?
Because although the morthage was written at the beginning of the year, I had my cap one in late 2022, chase in mid 2023 and got the apple card Jan 30th 2024.
I got denied a citi bank this year but I think I was only a little over 90 days into the mortgage.
I'd like to get a higher line with a new card, but it's a catch 22.
If I apply for amex it is no inquiry upon denial.
There are other cards that may hit harder with better limits, but they may result in a hard inquiry even if they say no.
Welp, got denied Amex due to low credit limits on the other cards.
Back to drawing board.
