Cap 1 pre approval tool reset on soft pull?

I utilized the Cap 1 pre approval tool on July 17th for the Venture X. Was declined because of two many newly opened accounts. I opened an old navy and an ultra card in November last year, and got a personal loan in April, but no credit cards since November. I actually ended up closing the old navy and ultra cards because the rewards just weren't worth it. Anyway, I tried the pre approval again yesterday (July 26th) and I got the same denial and the letter had the July 17th date of soft pull...which was from my first attempt. I thought they did a soft pull each time? Anyone know when it should reset and they will pull a new one?

I don't know but am going to spitball it would be 31 days after the previous soft pull. 

Did you close those 2 cards after the 7/16 preapproval failure with the idea that doing so would help your odds of getting a preapproval?

That's what I'm thinking too. I GUESS I'll be patient and wait lol 

nah not necessarily. But it did get me thinking about the cards I have, and I genuinely don't need those (honestly regret even applying for them, but such is life I guess!)

my vantage score actually dropped after doing it, but my FICO 8 actually raised by like 5point. Weird the difference between the two is that vast.
