Cap 1 pre-qualification page question

A friend used Cap 1's pre-qualification page to see what they would have for him.  He's interested in their Quicksiver card.  It said they didn't have any cards to offer him at this time.  He has good credit. Scores are in the low-mid 700s so I'm very surprised he didn't receive an offer.  Has anyone else received this message and been approved?  I tried it before I applied for two of their cards last year. It was on the money! I got the cards and APR that they offered.

Re: Cap 1 pre-qualification page question

Assuming he has no baddies or derogs hiding on any of his credit reports with EX, EQ and TU he should be fine cold apping for the QS if he wants. There could be a few reasons why it's not showing any pre-quals but as always if you have the scores/income to back it up he should be fine. There have been cases of people getting in with derogs regardless but why risk it you know?

Just remember CapOne triple pulls so need to make sure there's nothing hiding reporting to the CRAs. I only say this because a friend who thought was clear in his application despite the pre-qual had 2 derogs still showing on his EX report and they cited that as the reasons for the denial in the letter they sent him despite having mid-750s scores.

Re: Cap 1 pre-qualification page question

I did the pre-qualify page last May and it didn't set me up with any cards but I applied for the QS and was approved for $500. I also had scores probably in the mid-500's or so with quite a few negative things being reported as well.

I'm sure that they have tightened up criteria as it seems like now they are strict but I would say go for it!

Re: Cap 1 pre-qualification page question

Cap1 is really lenient. They approved me with scores in the low to mid 500s and derogs littered throughout the reports. I was shocked at the instant approval.

Re: Cap 1 pre-qualification page question

Forgot to add that I was pre qualified for both Platinum and QS1. I apped platinum first thinking I could get both cards with one set of pulls, but I later found out cap1 has 1/6 rule.

Re: Cap 1 pre-qualification page question

I checked for myself last night. They offered the QS because I'm looking for rewards and also suggested the Venture if I want rewards points. I applied for their QS and Venture cards within seconds of eachother last January (1 pull instead of 2). Later in the year I checked to see if I'd qualify for another card. It said they didn't have anything for me. From my own experience and what I've read here, the pre-qualification page is usually on the money. If they say you'll get a card at a certain rate you'll get it.

Re: Cap 1 pre-qualification page question

Are any of his reports frozen? (Or is he opted out?)

I had mine on ice, and would never get a pre-approval. Thawed them all, instant pre-approval on Venture for 13.49%. I looked, and Capital One seems to do a live SP when you use the pre-qual site.

Re: Cap 1 pre-qualification page question

I've had CapOne's secured card since April 2016 with 100% on-time payments. For the past 3 statements, I've reported a $0 balance. I still use the card throughout the month. However, when I use the prequalification page, I get nothing. My scores are MUCH better than where they used to be, and I've even handled the derogatory items on my credit report, but nothing.

Does anyone know which bureau CapOne is soft pulling when you use the prequalification page?

It probably depends (I know, super helpful). For me it's TU.

(I've been getting hard copy reports about once a month since February because TU has been screwing up...)

Capital One Savor: $6,000; PenFed Power Cash Rewards: $3,500; PenFed Gold: $2,500; Capital One: $2,500; Mission Lane: $2.500; Credit One: $2,000; Nordstrom Visa: $2,000;
Store Cards: Kohl's $2,500; Home Depot: $1,000; Target: $900; LOFT: $700; Amazon: $350

Re: Cap 1 pre-qualification page question

Just remember that the prequal site is based off whatever score that CapOne last pulled for you, which could be weeks or months ago. Thus, if your score has gone up substantially recently, it will not take that into account and does not mean that you won't get approved. Just something to keep in mind.
