I don't think the amount of the request matters. Last summer, I requested 3.1k and was offered 3k. This week, I asked for 2.5k and was offered 3k.
10k CLIs from Capital One are unusual, but we do hear about them from time to time. 3k seems to be the high end of routine increases.
An important thing to remember is that you can decline a CLI offer and not reset the clock.
Cap One is one of the few banks/creditors that refusing a CLI can be a strategy to get a higher one on the next try.....
Like everything though YCMV.....

Well, in my case they have put me in the app a ¨Earn a Higher Line¨ maybe to avoid me to ask for a higher limit by myself from the funny 500 I have right now to 750 if I make 5 consecutive minimum payments on time and it is due on March. I might ask by myself when time comes as it is a soft pull but I saw another friend that had exactly the same thing, more or less after six months of minimum consecutive payments they would increase the limit, although I don´t know other cases
The 6 month rule is new. But I’m not sure when the clock starts. I wonder if you can you still get an increase 4 months after opening the account.
I’m also curious if the rule applies to auto “credit steps” increase. If anyone knows please chime in. Does the credit steps increase count?” You get the credit steps increase after 5 months (or 5 statements). I’m wondering if you can still get an increase at 6 months. 🤔

I was auto increased after 5 months and they would not do an increase after I had the card 7 months for the exact reason that my last increase was too soon. Maybe others had better luck.
You can request a CLI before your Steps increase. I'd wait until about a month before the scheduled increase, then pull the trigger. If you're offered an increase, take whatever they offer.
Once you've received your Steps increase, you won't be eligible for another increase until six months have passed.
Just to be clear....these CLI are soft pulls, correct?

Yes..... CLI's are SP's
UPDATE:
I just hit the button for an increase, got a 3 day message of sorts. Prob a decline. It's been over 3 months (over 110 days) with my Savor. I'm testing the 'before 180 day theory) I've used it a bunch and paid it off each month. I will update when I get the response, or decline But, we will see. Thanks again. If I am offered a low CLI, I wil decline and wait till 180 days. Will play that side!!!

The 2-3 day message is usually a decline, no counteroffer. Which is no biggie since it's SP and you can try again in the future.
