Chance of a American Express Denial Recon?

Ok well i have a transunion credit score of 670. I get my credit scores free from my capitalone credit cards as well as use credit karma to track my credit score. My credit score as gone up from the past year and have 2 credit cars with capital one, 1 auto service card (discount tire) and a best buy credit card. The 2 capital one credit cards are a quick silver one card ($3000 CL) and a secured card ($500 limit). Currently my quicksilver card is my everyday card.

I was thinking about ditching the secured card and get another credit card for everyday purchases. I originally was going to sign up for a Chase Freedom card but I saw it was getting bad reviews from credit karma users as well as CK giving me a "Fair" odd of approval. I then noticed credit karm recommended the American Express Blue Cash everyday card with a "good" approval. I was hesitant to apply because I know American Express is pretty selective with issuing credit to new people without great. The fact that it didnt have a annual fee (my cap one cards do) and that it gives great rewards for groceries and that I had a "good" chance of being approved, i figured id go with that.

Anyways I applied on Friday, but ended up getting denied. I called later that night to a recon number thats been posted on here but it was already late and the department was closed. I did however findout the reason for denial and it was becuase of my credit score. Im not 100% sure if thats was the automated message said since it was before a crazy weekend.

Should I even try talking to a recon number anaylst? I know it wouldnt hurt to try (unless they do a hard pull) but not even I am very confident on what to say to make myself credit worth as i only applied cause i thought I had a good chance from credit karma.

Little background on my credit score:

The score is low because in 2008 when i just turned 18, i opened up a credit card that went into deregatory. The bank sold it to a debt collector who then sold it to another collector so it looks like theres 2 accounts open from that debt (which im trying to get fixed). I have $40k in student loans, $10k a private lstudent loan and $30k from federal student loan. Ive been paying the interest on the loans the latter part of my undergrad but am about to graduate so those loans repayment will start kicking into effect.

I interned last summer and was offered a full-time spot so am already making $55k this year. I pay in full for my secure card and most of the time on my quick silver card ( I say most because Im still having the 0% apr intro rate until May).

AMEX isn't great for recons.  You first need to know your Experian FICO score.  That's what AMEX uses.  Neither the Credit Karma or Cap One scores are FICO scores and could be significantly different than your FICO score and are basically meaningless  in this case.

Also never rely on CK for credit card recommendations.   They get paid to promote credit cards.  Their approval chances listed are worthless .

Re: Chance of a American Express Denial Recon?

I just got a notification from credit karma that a hard inquiry was reported.

Are AMEX card applications soft or hard pulls? I read that its soft if you apply and get denied.

If it is your 1ST Amex card, the inquiry is a hard inquiry.

Existing Amex card holders are eligible for the SP if denied HP if approved. If you're not an Amex card holder it's hard pull regardless. Amex reconsideration likelihood is about 0.01% unless there's an error on your CR.

Re: Chance of a American Express Denial Recon?

Applied for AMX everyday card denied twice. Have green card and as with all my cards excellent payment history. Called and they said ficoscore score 660 from exp and credit to debt ratio. Told them exp score is 694 ficoscore 694 according to experian own website, in addition not to give me that standard debt /ratio to high because I just purchased a home two years ago and what the hell do you expect. Told him on 80k with of available credit, utilization was only 1%, He says he is sending to underwriter for recon. I say to this community if not approved I am going to send that green card back along with the denial letter and along with my chase sapphire approval letter for 12k and Chase Merriott approval for 19k (Mod Cut-Such Language is not necessary on this board.)

Re: Chance of a American Express Denial Recon?

Perhaps it's time to step back and relax OP

Sometimes no matter what we do lenders don't see our profile as we do.

My advice is to wait on the letter and address the issues stated for denial to assure your next app ....If you decide

MJ

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?
