Re: Chase Freedom denied me but I have 738 FICO and 723 TU, how to argue? need help

Why not try one of their cobranded cards and build up your internal score that way so that you can go for the Freedom later on? That's how I was able to get in with Chase with 11 months of credit history altogether. Also open up a checking account if you can with them.

Tradelines: Macy’s - $18k, Penfed Power Cash Rewards - $10k, Ethan Allen (TD Bank) - $5.7k, Kay Jewelers - $5.5k, Appliances Connection - $5.3k, Jared - $5.25k, Best Buy (Citi) - $5k, Dell Preferred Account - $3.5k, Samsung - $3.2k, Firestone CFNA - $3.2k, Capital One Platinum - $3k, Mercury MC - $2.25k, Williams Sonoma - $2.1k, Wayfair (Fortiva) - $2k, Amazon Store Card - $1.8k, Apple Card - $1.7k, NFCU cashRewards - $1.5k, CareCredit - $1.5k, B&H Photo - $1.5k, Adorama - $1.25k, Ebay MC - $1k, Sam’s Club MC - $1k, American Eagle - $1k, Ollo MC - $600, Mission Lane Visa - $500, NY & Company - $500, Walgreens - $500, Home Depot - $500, Target RED Card - $500, CapOne Secured MC 0 AF - $500, Penfed Overdraft LOC - $500

Current FICOS: Mid 640s-50s on all reports, Ch 7 BK D/C Aug 2019
Starting scores: EX - 534, EQ - 574, TU - 516 | Total TLs: $91k approx | Total Utilization: 17%, getting this back down

Hi there,

I just call the reconsider for the freedom. and I spoke with the guy as you said, and they said I do not have enough credit cards with not long enough history, I explained as you said. But still refused me. I do not know if the I need to call the 3rd time.Smiley Sad

Or I directly wait for another 2 months.

I am wondering if I need to reapply 2 months later?

By the way, do you have some ideas which travel card is good for me to apply after 2 months.

Thanks.

@Anonymous,

If you are going to recon, recon the 2 cards you applied for.  Call a few times before giving up.  So far it seems you spoke to 2 analyst.  Whatever those 2 analyst are telling you, when you call have an answer for the past questionsin case the 3rd analyst ask you.  When you call the 3rd time, let the analyst know you have done your research and people will less month in credit have gotten the card.  It is nothing and may not help but remind those jamokes you have been doing your homework.

When it to travel cards, you have to assess your need.  What exactly are you looking for in terms of travel cards.  Is there a particular airline you use? Do you want an annual fee?  What sort of perks are you looking for exactly among other things... There are a ton of travel cards out there but they all do different things.  Is the travel card a "want" or "need?

There in't much difference between 11 month and a year.  What you need is an analyst with a heart to plead your case to, they are also human and and had to start where.  Don't sound desperate but plead your case passionately.  So keep hitting the phone.

Re: Chase Freedom denied me but I have 738 FICO and 723 TU, how to argue? need help

Hi @Yes-Its-Me, thanks for your encouragement. I would call more times.

I do not know if I do right in the calling, just like this: tell the analyst that I applied the credit card and want to know the progress, then the analyst asked questions like SSN, address, and then wait a moment the analyst told me that my credit card is not enough and my history is not long enough, so I spoke to him saying I have good payment history and the scores are good, and also chase is a good bank recommended by my friends and the card is very good, I like it very much..., after I said thse, the analyst still refused to approve the application.

Is there any wrong in the process?

For travel cards, I want to accumulate mileage so I can have free flight but I am not using particular airline. Each year, I estimate I spend 4000$ for demestic travel and every 2 year, I would travel internationally once, maybe took 4000$. For some good cards, the annual fee is small amount something like 95$, or free for the first year. The travel card is a need cause I donot want wasting my every trip.

Thanks.

I applied for the united mileageplus explorer card, which is cobranded with chase also, but I am still denied. The reasons still are limited credit card number and credit history.

@Anonymous,

Lets work on a recon.  You have 30 days to recon so it is just beginning.  Keep in mind, a good score as you told the analyst is not enough to get you approved.  Try this approach on your next call.  Remember, all you need is that 1 analyst - just that 1 analyst.  Depending on where you are, as you have already called, find out what time they close and call an 1 hour or 30 minutes before they close.  Analyst is getting ready to leave and based on how he reponds (pay close attention to how he comes across when he is talking to you), he may just approve you if he hasn't met his numbers for the day. (Remember, in banking for every credit card approved, there is a commission made and they have goals everyday and week to meet).  If you don't get approved, be polite and get ready to call friday. (Call in the morning and if not approved, call back in the evening as is it close to the weekend).  Another good time to call is the end of the month.  If an analyst hasn't made his numbers, he will be more than willing to give you a chance.

Call,

Hi, I applied for a card and and wanted to know if something else is needed to complete my application.

Analyst: You don't have enough history for us to approve you for this card.

gucas: Thanks for bringing that up as I know that is the case.  I admit I only have 11 months of history and based on reasearch, chase goes by their internal score and other factors and a good score isn't enough.  But as you can see based on my age (how old are you by the way), I am keen to establish my credit and I was fortunate enough to have discover for 11 months to start that journey.  During that time, I didn't apply for anything until I felt it was past at least 6 months.  In my quest to develop my profile, I applied for an Amex card and was approved for 5.5k.  I then decided to apply for the card I always dreamed of and that is with chase (at this point, you just want to get in).  Out of all the banks, chase has a good ranking and really good reviews.  Yes, I understand I have less than a year of history but I just want an opportunity to prove myself to chase.  I know my history does not support a huge amount but I'd like the opportunity to prove myself.  If Amex and discover were able to see something in me and approve me, I am hoping chase does the same.   Then see how the analyst responds.

But as you can see based on my age (how old are you by the way), I am keen to establish my credit and I was fortunate enough to have discover for 11 months to start that journey.

I'm not sure I'd try that on the analyst.  Especially is she is older than 29.  I think the rest of the call would not go so well.

Think they were referring to the OP's age.
