Citi/WF/Barclay/BBT chances

Hey guys was looking for thoughts on my chances with these lenders. I want to add a few (2 to 3) cards before a very long garden stint. I'm planning on applying for cards in about 2 to 3 weeks and the garden stay is for a mortgage in late summer 2020 but have some spend coming up soon so I figured I'd add now then spend about a year and a half in the garden. Disclaimer; I am NOT applying for all of these cards! I am simply looking for thoughts on chances.

Specific cards;
Citi DC or Premier
WF Propel
Barclay Uber or Jet Blue
BB&T Cash Rewards

I've been keeping a mix of travel and cash back cards for different time frames.

Profile details
-I'll be 0/6, 8/12 at time of applications
-Utilization reporting 5% but accts PIF after statement
-1/3/4 HPs in the last 12 months
-AAoA 4.6 years
-F9s from 710 to 750
-Bankcards from 710 to 720
-F8s in siggy
-6+ year old baddies
-Current Citi relationship with SP CLI and current BBT auto loan
-Prior WF relationship with a single 30 day late on auto loan (may or may not be on report depending on CRA)

Thanks in advance. I appreciate any CONSTRUCTIVE input!

Re: Citi/WF/Barclay/BBT chances

I would app for the card that I want and would benefit me the most rather than the ones I might have the best chance of approval. Hate that lingering “What if” feeling that’ll be like an itch that never goes away! Be on your best when that time comes and hope for good results. But that’s just me.
However, to directly answer your question, here’s what I think is your chances of approval in order of 1st as the highest....

1.0 Barclay Uber
2.0 BB&T CR
3.0 WF Propel
4.0 citi DC
New cc TLs : 0/6 ; 0/12 ; 0/24 | HPs EX 3 EQ 3 TU 4 | AAoA 8y1m | UTIL 1% - 4% | $300K+ Total Limits

Re: Citi/WF/Barclay/BBT chances

So you're doubtful on the WF and Citi cards? I'd have thought Citi was more likely than Barclay's?
The late on WF was an issue with the last payment after trade in, I simply didn't know any better. I had checking accts with them as well.

Re: Citi/WF/Barclay/BBT chances

What would the BB&T Cash Rewards do differently from your existing Quicksilver, Discover, Cash+ and PenFed PCR? No SUB IIRC. I can perhaps see where 3% c/b on gas and 10% redemption bonus with BB&T relationship may yield some benefit.

WF Propel would seem like a good choice but 8 accounts opened in the last 12 months might be trivial, YEMV though.

Barclays may give you the too many CCs opened in the past 24 months reasons.

The Premier might be a good contender if you value TY points to an extent, but why the Double Cash with your other current cashback CCs?

I suppose you can decide and roll the dice and see what it yields.

Re: Citi/WF/Barclay/BBT chances

Fin, my preferences would be Uber and Propel from the list. I'm also considering trying to get a CLI from PenFed and using my PCR as my 2% Cards.

TYP from Premier I'd use to transfer to Jet Blue as I like them and American as primary airlines.

I'm also looking for lenders not averse to a 0% promo being used as DW is pregnant and will be out of work. We have decent (a little over $8k and growing) savings which is plenty but if I can borrow for free I wouldn't mind at all (as long as I could pay it off with savings at the drop of a hat).

Re: Citi/WF/Barclay/BBT chances

Not focusing on any particular card. This is where I put your chances with each FI of an approval.

1. BB&T

2. Citi

3. Barclay and WF is a draw. Mainly because of what Fin already said.

BB&T is the hungriest of the four you've mentioned IMO. They don't seem to be adverse to much of anything. lol

BB&T instant approvals are a win. WF seems to pride themselves in manual reviews. Barclay is also big on the MRs.

Citi can be verify identity happy, but they don't seem to focus on your reports, as long as your scores meet the requirements.

I've talked to a Citi UW on three apps. Not once did they question me on my accounts or even mention them.

These observations are only from what I've experienced with each lender you've listed.

Re: Citi/WF/Barclay/BBT chances

I would go with what @Gmood1 suggested. BB&T has definitely more flexible UW, but SLs will definitely vary depending on your overall profile.

Citi has never been spooked IME, then again I have several products with them and a very thick profile. I'd go for TYP vs DC if it were me. The SUB alone is a win-win IMO.

And Barclays, well it's sort of drawing a trick out of the hat. It can go *poof* anytime. Not always, but you've been around the forums long enough to know.

Re: Citi/WF/Barclay/BBT chances

Yes, Barclay's is definitely a concern. So maybe app for WF and Citi first and see what happens? If BB&T isn't overly concerned with anything they can wait till later. Score wise I should be fine with Citi and I've got some history with them as well. I suppose TYP is a winner for sure and can be PCed at a later date if I wanted for some reason.

Re: Citi/WF/Barclay/BBT chances

I was approved in Dec for the WF propel. Similar stats to yours. Pulled Ex (633 FICO8 at the time) and Eq (696 at the time, stated by approval letter). Eq was showing 9 inq at the time. Ex was showing 6. I got a $1500SL. I have had checking and savings with them for almost 3yr. I think previous/present banking relationship helps, at least for me. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Edit: Forgot to mention, 3 new accts, 2 less than a week old, at the time of approval.

Re: Citi/WF/Barclay/BBT chances

From my personal experience only, could be wrong Smiley Surprised:

  • I think Barclays' Uber will likely be an approval. They may get slightly spooked by new accounts and give you a lower than your average SL. They will pull TU.
  • BB&T will likely be an approval. They, on the other hand, will more likely either match or even slightly exceed your highest SL. They will reliably pull Equifax.
  • No experience at the moment with WF Propel and Citi.  From what I know, Citi is very likely to cost you 2 HPs and WF Propel may pull an extra report via an SP (or even try to go for 2 HPs). Citi is almost guaranteed to pull EX.
  • In all cases, you can always try optimize your utilization, may be even using AZEO method, to squeeze those extra 5-7 FICO points right before applying. These will unlikely to change your approval/denial outcome but may bump you into a slightly higher SL bracket.

Thanks!!
