Re: Citi and Chase cobranded relationship

My first Chase card was the Amazon Visa which started out at $500 years ago when I was rebuilding and never made it over $1000. (I just recently chopped it)

It got me in with Chase, although it wasn't until 12/2020 that I applied for my next card with them, and 12/2021 for my 3rd Chase card.  Those will probably be my last however.  I tread lightly with those guys as far as requests of any sort but I wear those cards OUT!

It's a good card IMHO. It just has nothing to do with building a 'relationship' with Chase that might get you their core cards.

But it seems to me that with your very high scores you shouldn't have any trouble qualifying for a core card.

Re: Citi and Chase cobranded relationship

The BestBuy may have been a slight miscalculation with respect to building a relationship with Citi.  Don't fret over it.   How is your ulitization?

I got the Citi BestBuy Visa last year just because I wanted to cultivate a relationship with them. I was later told it was a waste of time. Can someone confirm this?

I also just opened the Chase Amazon card. I was already over the 5/24 rule so I have to wait a while before applying but will this account help me with approval odds and SL with Chase when I do apply?

UTI for the BestBuy card is 0%. I usually comply withh the AZEO and my overall aggretate UTI is < 1%

Are you pointing out that BestBuy card won't help relationship wise with Citi but you think the Amazon Visa will help with Chase?

Sorry, since you are > 5/24, I had dismissed your window right now with Chase...

So does having the Prime Visa improve your odds to get a Chase core card?   No.

Similiarly, having the BestBuy will not improve your odds with Citi.

Co branded cards like these have more lenient UW conditiions.

Which Citi/Chase card are you interested in?  With your great profile, you could get any Citi card right now.

I would have liked the Citi Custom Cash for 5% gas and maybe the Chase Freedom Flex as I like most of the quarterly 5% options.

However, I am currently over the 5/24 and I was denied last week for the Citi Custom Cash.

Re: Citi and Chase cobranded relationship

Funny, when I had Citi Best Buy store card it was managed on a different site.

Now my new AA MileUp is directly linked to main Citi acct for DC. Sure is nice to see those 2 accts together in 1 page!

Re: Citi and Chase cobranded relationship

This forum can make your head spin at times. I remember people telling me last year that the Chase cobrands DO "get you in the door" with them.  Now it's that it doesn't....  I also remember people mentioning it's managed in the same Chase app and the SP/pre-approved offers they sometimes offer can come through that app....so, wouldn't that be increasing chances?

@SouthJamaica(And no, the above doesn't affect my leaning! Smiley Happy ) I'm shocked you couldn't get a core card with them, your profile is very well into what most would say is their territory.  Might it be, not because you can't get in with them, but because they're already exposed almost 60k on you and just don't want more exposure?

1. People who told you that were not well informed. Take that from someone who's been approved for 3 cobranded cards and was batting 3 for 3 in that department if I'm not mistaken, but is 0 for about 7 or 8 on applications for core cards.

2. Yes it's true that they they're managed together on the same site; so that's good.

3. Yes it's true that with a cobranded card you have access to all the same info, including preapprovals. I did once get a preapproval for a card I wanted, but I was denied when I applied.

4. The 59k exposure doesn't seem to bother them in my case, as they've never mentioned that as a reason. I used to be denied primarily because of 5/24. Now I'm being denied because my profile has too much utilization. The last time I got turned down I actually spoke to the loan person, and she made it clear that it was because of heavy utilization.  My utilization on the Chase cards is not a factor, because they are both personal spend cards, and I am a very small spender. And as you've already researched, the limits are more than ample (29k and 30k).
