I was just approved membership with DCU. I opened it up with the savings and a $500 CD. Now I am wondering if I should apply for the CC or just wait. What are your thoughts?
IMO DCU's credit cards are very useful - I have the one with no rewards, but a lower APR. Why do I find it useful? #1 Zero percent balance transfer promotions (they offered one in January through July this year) and the ability to take "cash advances" by just transferring funds to your checking account with Zero transfer fees and no added (higher) interest or fees. I have lots of cards (too many) but my DCU credit card is unique in the free cash advance feature which if you PIF at the end of the cycle its a free 2-3 week "payday loan.
That said, I'd wait until my scores got in the 680+ range to apply.

They don't start charging you interest the day you make advances? Or is this a special promtional offer you have on your card?
When I opened my bank account with them, the lady at the branch said for CC they needed score around 660 and for reward card about 700ish.
If you are local to DCU is best to go in and talk to them, if your not sure! But getting their CC puts you on upper lvl bank account and almost no fee at any ATM nationwide.
DCU is a great bank.

I think they are just trated as a normal "charge" but let me double check.
No Fee or Higher Rate for Cash Advances – Cash advances are free! Get advances 24-hours a day from any ATM displaying the Visa logo or by calling DCU or through Online Banking. Easily transfer money to any of your DCU Checking or Savings accounts or have a check mailed to you. Plus, we offer cash advances up to $200 per day at participating hotels.

Theres no fee, so this is what they mean by "free", its the same interest rate as purchases, but terms say you can avoid interest on purchases, doesn't say you can avoid on Advances or BTs, which is how it usualy is. This is what I was checking, if you had done it before and had no interest at all on an advance, which would be really rare.
