Everybody has different expectations. As for me, I'm good with my 8K approval and here's why:

- My 13 is still on my reports until March 2024 (barring any EE).

- I have decent scores (in signature below),  but not yet where I want to be or plan to be.

- I am coming off a VERY productive 12 months where I have received numerous approvals for prime cards.
- I am right now inquiry-heavy and new account-heavy.

- They approved me for $5K and immediately bumped it to $8K without my asking.

- I can always grow with the card.

- Good APR, and great BT offer (though I have no balances to transfer).

- BCU has been very welcoming and communicative.

I am speaking only for myself and my own situation, of course. I make over $200K a year but given the fact that I still have the 13 reporting, I don't have a problem with SL.

I decided to accept the $5k because i felt like they had customer service, which is hard to find indeed. I'll find something to do with the $5k, just not sure what yet.

@RootDetDid you get the email/fax or phone call to upload documents yet? I did and got the final decison at 15k. Seems like the $5000 is just to say your in. Details to come next. Look on the apps. It wont be there until finalized.

Re: Datapoint needed for BCU

@JannemanI went for it due to the APR on my QS keeps going up. Wont use it for emergencies. The balance transfer and SUB wasnt bad to start with either.

Did you have to provide any PoI for any of the products you got?

It's YMMV at this point, I was approved 5/2023 & they didn't ask for POI for my CC or to open my checking & saving accounts.

You are so right that its YMMV as my friend did not even apply for any loan and credit card; rather just the membership and checking/saving accounts...and she was asked for POI....Many credit unions do ask for POI just to join them which is very strange...how about those who already retired? Maybe record of their other income, like SS or others, I guess....

Re: Datapoint needed for BCU

I too just jumped aboard the bcu train. Applied on 7/1. Got an email 7/3 conditionally approved for 5k and told to look for future emails regarding finalization.

I Applied due to a big spend purchase this month of 6k. The idea of no interest was luring. There has been no asking of further docs. I'm sure the holiday today is playing a factor.

I did respond back to them. I respectfully told them my situation and my big expense. I told them while I'm grateful for the approval, that little of a credit line is unusable. I also explained in a nice way, I'm not about to max out a cc on a single purchase. Nonetheless, I will see how they redpond. I'm only me, and they have authority to do as they see fit. It will be interesting though. Dti here is about 8%. But 2.5 times income as a rule for exposure. That and a 800+ score.

I have to believe that economic conditions are going to play a role in decisions. Especially for those of us who have way more TCL than the average person.

I see it daily. I work for an international company in the freight business. We are not even exempt. Volume is down roughly 25% system wide. I'm sure there are going to be high wage earners who can still get big credit lines. But I'm also thinking banks and credit unions are thinking twice about handing them out.
