Drumroll please,
1 - Serious delinquency , and public record or collection filed. " Obviously my bk7 of 12/19 "
2 - Length of time revolving accounts have been established.
3 - proportion of loan balances toloan amounts too high.
4 - Number of inquiries on credit burea.
How in the world did they grant a cc in the first place?
They can still approve accounts under the guise of a revenue stream, like AmEx, Chase, BoA, PNC, US Bank, Citi, etc. Your account potentially resides in a tranche like all other applicants who met similar [algorithmic] criteria. That goes with any entity. But, don't expect it to grow too fast/soon.
If you can address reason(s) 2, 3 and 4 in the long term, then Discover may likely loosen up the purse strings over time.
Thanks, the loan balances are too high i think refers to the 2 credit builder loans i opened when i started rebuilding. i have one with self thats a 24 month 500 thats almost paid off so that ones cool but the second one is with strong, 10 years for 1000, 15 bucks a month. the strong one shows a balance of over 900 of 1000.
Its ok though. right now i'm concentrating on growing my relationship with navy. they gave me a 3700 unsecured in dec. my 91/3 is coming up in a few weeks, well for me the first statement was a partial so its 104/3.
i have been spending over 1k per month on the card and paying in full.

How in the world did they grant a cc to such a loser in the first place? oops its me, nevermind
They are comfortable giving you 3k limit but they don't trust you with more than that, yet.
I really don't understand why this is such a hard concept for people to understand.

Theres nothing wrong with asking for an occasional cli, especially when its a sp. cap 1 gave me a 1500 cli on one card in nov, approved me for a savor one at 3k in nov. penfed approved me for a PCR 7.5K sl in december and navy approved me for an unsecured 3700 cr in dec.
I don't think there are many on this forum that dont ask for an occasional cli regardless of the stats.
I don't post this as a gripe, i post it for dp's for someone else who reads it to gain from, i beleive thats a minor contribution to the forum. I could just as simply watch tv and post nothing.
I've had my Discover for roughly 2 years and I find myself requesting CLIs every 6 months or so with a SL of $1200. I've never automatically received a CLI, but when one was granted, it's never been more than $800 at a time (and it's always been a SP). I've slowly made my way up to $4200. One thing I have learned is that once a CLI is provided, if I ask too soon, they will send me a letter stating "not enough experience with existing credit line." Slow and steady with Discover has worked wonders for me....keep at it, you'll eventually keep climbing the Discover ladder.
@Anonymous wrote:I've had mine about 8 months. Smaller starting limit than yours though. But I've been given 2 automatic CLIs and just requested one which they also gave me. Now my limit is only 1750 lol. I'm going to keep at it though!

How old was your first discover when you apped for the second?
As long as your first Discover is over a year old, you can apply for a second one. I would suggest checking the pre-approval page Discover has to see if you're eligible.
Also, Discover doesn't seem to ever like me either. I receive regular CLIs on other cards, but never Discover. I threw them in my sock drawer because of it. 😆
I read somewhere that Discover is more likely to be triggered to request a 4506 if you apply for a second product with them...I'm curious to see if there's any truth to that. Did your second application go smoothly?
@SUPERSQUID wrote:I have the card 9 months, 3k starting limit. about 60 pct util because of bt's. my scores are in the high 600's. overall util at 14 pct. I have a bunch of hp's 23, but a major chunk of them become 2 years old in the fall and go poof. then i will have about 8 left and some of those will be more than 1 year old. my income is 36000, i am retired. when i get the denial letter i will post the reasons.
I've had my Discover secured card @$500for four years before it graduated. I've had the unsecured card @$1000for more than a year and always get denied for CLI. Yesterday, I did the prequal and approved for the Discover It Miles card for $4k.
Try the prequal and you may get another card.

Not necessarily @DCSportsJunkie. Getting approved for a 2nd Discover card is not usually the 4506-C trigger -- you'd be seeing a lot of threads (or just about every thread) where someone that applied for a 2nd one was hit by a 4506-C request. There are usually other factors at play that may cause that particular review.

Thank you @FinStar. I've been very hesitant to ask too much of Discover (whether it's a CLI or even applying for another product) as I have recently read more and more information about their 4506-C requests. Very helpful info....noted.

Same here, I have come to the conclusion that Discover is one card I will never have. They gave me a 3k CL (utilization is 2%), then refused to do CLI's. I finally gave up and closed the account.
