Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

I seem to be on a 60 day cycle with discover.  I opened my account in Feb 18.  I hit the luv button right after my 2nd statement in April and got a $1500 CLI, I tried again in May and was told "not enough experience with current credit limit", and in June I got another $1500 CLI.

Just because you can ask every 30 days dosen't mean they will give you one every 30 days.

Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

As for me, I got CLI's pretty reliably every 3 months or so for the first 9 months of having my first Discover IT, but since last December the spigot on that card has been turned off. I do seem to remember the occasional phenomenon - not solely a province of Discover - where if you leave a card unused for a few months while keeping it paid off or down, and then try for a CLI, you'll sometimes get a really nice one, possibly as an enticement to get you to start using the card again.

I got my second Discover in March, and tried for my first CLI last weekend. Got a fairly modest one - $500 - but I'll give it another shot at the end of this month under the 30-day-minimum rule reported by OP.

Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

I’m about done with discover. They hate me for whatever reason.

I max my card out every month and PIF. I can’t get a CLI to save my life. I got a $400 increase once to bring my limit up to $600.

It’s my oldest card and has by far my lowest limit. Every other card is atleast 9X the limit of discover and most are 12-20X the limit.

My recent denial a couple days ago really sunk the knife in. Entered the 700’s on TU and approved for 19K on a new card and still denied for a CLI.

Starting to think I’m stuck in a bucket. From what I’ve read about discover. They dont do buckets. But I can’t get an increase to save my life

Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

Yes discover does buckets.. but they are usually a bit more accomodating for growth than say Cap One...

Really seems to affect secured cards more than others....

Might be worth apping for a second Disco ....

Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

That’s interesting.
I didn’t know discover Bucketed cards.
My FIcO was around 512 when I opened the card last year. Hoping I do see some sort of growth though.

Unless the card grows significantly. It will forever be a SD’d card expect when it’s a 5% category I will actually use.

Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

Fugget about Discover, you have a great lineup already. You could always apply for a Chase Freedom and then get rid of Disco forever. (yes I realize the categories sometimes don't overlap but that's not the point here)

Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

I’m about two years from being able to get a core chase 5/24 card. I’m way past LOL/24.

Plus I’m blacklisted by the retail side of chase. Not a clue about the CC side.

I would ditch discover in a heartbeat for chase freedom but chase isn’t in the cards (pun intended ) any time soon

Discover has lost a lot of its appeal now that the cash back match is over and it’s past the first year. I get 4.5% back on all mobile pay which basically covers the discover categories anyway.

Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

Ah so the CSP must be an AU card then? Could always become an AU on Freedom Smiley Happy

Re: Discover CLI Timeframe Update

Haha yes it is.
It’s under my fiancé’s name but I’m the only one that uses it. She got the card for me since I was way past 5/24 when I found out about how valueable chase points were.

I’ve been talking to her about it. But she’s set on cards. She has way more then she ever wanted because of me. She thought she was reaping amazing awards with her one capital one QS1 when we first started dating 😂. I fixed that pronto!
