Discover Secured Best Approach?

What's the best approach to get in with Discover Secured?

I read stories about applying for the Student Card and then getting pushed into a Secured.. What about applying for the regular card and then calling Re-Con and asking to be considered for the secured product?

Also, what are the scores they look for? I just recently got approved for a Cap One Secured Card.

Re: Discover Secured Best Approach?

Hi!

I'm actually a student so I applied for the Student Chrome it & was approved back in March for the secured. I didn't take them up on the offer as I wasn't ready for credit again yet. Then I applied again in October and received the counter offer for the Secured & took it. My TU score was 610 Fico at the time.

I haven't heard of many people having success with reconing a denial to the secured card.

SOME people have reported applying for the Regular it card & getting the counter offer for Secured, but I've seen mostly counter offers from applying for the Student version.

If you apply, good luck! And keep us posted.

I think most of the counter offers for the secured come from applying for the student card. Most who apply for the IT get countered with joint offer.

Re: Discover Secured Best Approach?

I got flat denied for the IT Card.

I was just curious if I should even attempt to apply for the Student (cause I'm definately not one). I have read that some people were required to provide proof of being a student.

I also got denied the IT card yesterday. I figured I would get denied but I was hoping to be offered the secured version as well. I would just like to get my foot in the door with discover.

Re: Discover Secured Best Approach?

So sorry to hear that you weren't approved. I think it's probably better that you didn't apply for the student version, because in order to get the card they do ask you for documents to prove your identity, etc. so who knows what would've happened.

Hopefully in the future as you continue building up your profile, you'll qualify for a Discover.

I applied for the student version and was countered with the secured card in July. My scores were as follows: FICO 8 TU-633, EQ-624, and EX-609. However, I am a graduate student but they did not ask for any documentation and still have not.
