Re: Discover denial letter

I applied for Discover early 2015 and was declined.  My profile wasn't real nice a couple of PIF collections.  Got the collections removed waited a few months and tried again.  Got the card with a low SL but was happy to get in.  Just received my first CLI.  Am very happy with Discover.  As many here have said "Patience".  Good Luck!

Re: Discover denial letter

I was definitely going to wait, as planned.  But after hearing the promo is going to go til the end of the year, I'm very tempted.  My eq score is still stuck at 618 (I pulled from CCT today) until this last collection is deleted which will happen this month.  Before the end of the year, I won't even have half a year of my own credit, despite perfect payment history, 1% uti, etc.

So, would apping again in 2015 be pointless?

- First denial reason (see image in my first post), addressed and rectified this month

- Second, student loan wasnt reporting yet when I last applied, so that might change that?

- Third, nothing I can do there...

- Fourth, not sure if I have %1 util and my student loan for $1450 is deferred?

- Fifth, 2 inqs from september, 4 from august, 2 from july, 1 from june, 1 from feb, 1 from april 2014

The inquiries remain on your report for 2 years. Their importance dimishes over time but they are still there and still count for 2 years.

One month between apps is typically, but not always, not enough time to meaningfully change a decision. In other words, you should expect the denial to reoccur unless something drastic has changed on your reports. For best results, wait at LEAST 3 months before reapplying, if not 6 months.

I monitor my credit rpt thru Experian and they have a free service to speak to a credit analyst which I took advantage of.  We talked about my 15 inquiries and the analyst told me that while inquiries stay on your report for 24 months, they are not counted AT ALL after 12 months  by the CRA and Lenders.   .

The double cash back promo

I posted this the other day in the cc apps forum but figured maybe I'd get some opinions in here.  I applied for discover it in august, but my credit was brand new, from july, so I was declined.  I applied again stubbornly, knowing I'd be declined again, the following month and of course, I was.

I was definitely going to wait until next spring AT LEAST, to reapply.  But after hearing the promo is going to go til the end of the year, I'm very tempted to reapply next month.  My eq score is still stuck at 618 (I pulled from CCT tuesday) until this last collection is deleted which will happen this month.  Score will almost definitely sky rocket.  I got almost 100 points on tu somehow when tu deleted and 74 points on ex.  Also, my eq score was 629 last month and dcu says it was 642 at the end of oct, which is 04, therefore should be lower.  My uti went to 8% this month which could be why eq 08 is so low.  Before the end of the year, I won't even have half a year of my own credit, despite perfect payment history, 1% uti, etc.

So, would apping again in 2015 be pointless?

- First denial reason on the letter they sent was, collection or public record, which as I said, will be addressed and rectified this month.

- Second was not enough accounts, student loan wasnt reporting yet when I last applied, so that might change that?

- Third was length of credit history, nothing I can do there...I'm an au on my dads barclays from july 2013, if that matters.

- Fourth said not enough accounts paid as agreed, not sure about this because I had %1 util and my student loan for $1450 is deferred?

- Fifth was too many inqs, 2 inqs are from september (including discover) 4 from august, 2 from july, 1 from june, 1 from feb, 1 from april 2014

I plan on getting the discover it card regardless, and with 2% back, I'd have a new daily driver with my qs1 as backup incase someone doesnt accept discover.

Thanks all.

Re: The double cash back promo

idk the collection part doesn't seem to be the only issue and some of the denial reasons aren't fixable within a month

Re: The double cash back promo

You cannot let a promo cloud your common sense. As stated, a month really doesn't tend to change much in terms of approval/denial. I'd stick with your plan of waiting until spring. Missing out on the promo sucks, yes, but IMO, you'd just be wasting another HP to apply.

Thanks for the inputs.  Yea it kinda does suck, but it would likely be a waste of an hp.
