Does this sound like a yes for US Bank? Reconned.

I was going to stay in my garden and mind my own business for a long while after revelling in my 5 for 5 spree last month, then I saw here on the forums about the US Bank FlexPerks Travel Amex. I had been reading how conservative US Bank is and how picky they are about inquiries and new accounts. My wife and I have a joint checking and savings account with US Bank since 2000. I went to the pre qual site 3 days ago and the site said I was "qualified" for the US Bank Platinum and the Flex Perks Travel VS. I already have the CSP and Venture as VS and I wanted another Amex to go along with my BCE. Well, I applied for the Amex one and of course I got the the automated 7-10 day wait and I should know in 3 days. I called today and my app was denied. I figured because they pulled EX (live in CO) and I had 4 inquiries before theirs, that was the reason. I want this card badly, so I called recon and a nice lady only needed to just verify my address and  SS#. I added that I was a 15 year member, fly for a major carrier and was interested in the card because I travel internationally and the no intl fees are very attractive to me. She said she understood and they were going to put the app back in and I will know something in 7-10 days. She never said anything about my score, inquiries or anything negative about my EX report. Can I take this as a "yes" for those of you that have US Bank cards or have reconned with them? Thanks.

I called the 1-800-947-1444 number and asked the first operator that I had been denied on the automated app. She looked me up and then transferred me to another nice lady who went over my CR and just said I needed to verify my address and SS#. Maybe that was all that was needed for a possible approval? I'll find out in 7-10 days.

US Bank does manual reviews of apps and they usually take a week or so.

Good luck with your app!

US Bank can go either way, they're really difficult to read. I've had the automated app status tell me it couldn't find an application and then a CSR tell me approved.

My most recent application had been denied because of a security freeze on my EX file. I called the same number at 4:55pm Friday (that department closes at 5pm) and asked them to re-process the application. The CSR made it clear he could only notate my application and it would take a few days to process. About 10 days later a card showed up. 4 inq really doesn't seem too high for US Bank so I think you have a good chance. Keep us posted.

I thought I would have a good chance since I have a joint checking and savings acct by them for the last 15 years. I'll let you know what happens.

US Bank is REALLY hard to read.  I had 16 inquiries ( not an exaggeration) when I app'd for the Flex Perks Amex in December.  Got 7-10 day message and card showed up in my online banking two days later.  I think everything is a manual review and the watchdogs do a good job shielding the UW's

I have a Flexperks Visa and while not my best earning card I have had great luck getting the max out of airline rewards tickets.  Booked on American and got upgraded on 4/5 tickets because of status on AA.  The Amex adds restaurants so good value for $49 AF
