How long before Capital One upgrade?

Hey all...I opened a Capital One secured card ($200 limit) 2 months ago. I have paid half off each month and plan on paying the whole balance off with my next statement. I am in the process of paying off all my other cards as well. I have applied for an unsecured Capital One card and was denied due to too many new accounts and also balances too high. About how long usually will it take to get upgraded to an unsecured Capital One card? My scores are just starting to come up...619 right now...hoping they will jump up after I pay more off..thanks for the guidance! I have been reading forums like crazy but haven't posted much..these forums are awesome!

Capital One does not unsecure secured cards.

you will have to apply for unsecured but I would not do that until you get a pre-qualified offer on capitalone.com or through the mail.

Gotcha....so would it be wise after 6 months of letting my secure card age (would have had it 8 months by then) and also pay down/off as many accounts as possible, to apply for an unsecured card from them? If so which would be the best one?

My goal is to get rid of the not so great cards I have (credit one, first premier, etc) and hopefully replace them with better cards...

After 6 months, check their website to see if you prequalify. If you do then apply. It took me 18 months of have their secured card before I could have others. I recently got their quicksilver card. That is the one you should try to get. There are two. Get the mastercard because it is for people with average credit.

That sounds like a great goal to me.   You may also want to post over in our Rebuilder section if you have baddies on your CRs that you'd like to work on.   That and maintaining a good history with your current cards can definitely open doors!
