I've always put some time between apps, months in fact.
This has thus far protected me against any AA from my lenders, however, it's killed my AAoA and date of most recent account.
If there were a rating lower than POOR, that would be me.. In fact, I would be rated at ABYSMAL.
My scores take a hit for that but I've yet to be denied for anything I've apped for so it works for me.

12/23/2014 - I noticed that Synchrony liked me so I googled "List of Synchrony credit cards " Apped for probably 8-10 cards. Denied for all the bankcards. Approved for 5 store cards. I would have been approved for a sixth store card but I chickened out of the verification phone call for my last app

I’m going to reply to this, but not as a challenge, brag, or to get congratulations, rather as a cautionary tale.
In January of this year I was approved for 7 cards in a spree: Chase Sapphire Preferred, USAA Cash Back Rewards Plus American Express, American Express Blue Cash Everyday, Chase Freedom, HSBC Cash Rewards Mastercard, Citi Double Cash Mastercard, and Discover It Cashback Match.
I was very pleased with myself and proud of my achievement. Soon though my pride turned to regret as I was contacted by Chase and told (even before the cards arrived) that those accounts had been closed. I called in a panic, trying to be calm, and asked what the issue was. My “app spree” had caused them to raise my internal risk due to the credit seeking behavior. I stated my case and explained that I was just trying to diversify my portfolio, improve my utilization , and ultimately increase my credit scores in order to hopefully be able to buy a home in a couple of years. Fortunately for me I was transferred to a senior underwriter/loan officer who spoke with me for about 30-45 minutes about numerous aspects of my credit history, finances, employment, pay, goals, background, and told he would further review and I would be notified of the reconsideration request in about a week. Needless to say I was rather despondent for almost a week. Then on Thursday of the following week I got a call from Chase telling me my accounts and original SLs had been reinstated. Whew! I dodged the bullets! It so very easily could have gone the other way, and personally, I won’t do another “app spree,” nor will I advocate for anyone else to do one. I don’t scold or lecture anyone who does, and I happily congratulate anyone who does so successfully, for me though, no more sprees.
I hope that by sharing someone will be able to avoid duplicating my mistake and week+ of anguish and anger at myself for what I saw in myself as foolishness.
As we always hear said around here, YMMV, and I wish everyone the very best of luck in whatever you do and look forward to hearing the happy success stories!
Happy Friday!
Wow, what a story - thanks for sharing your experience! Congrats on the monster spree, and REALLY glad it all worked out!!
