Barclay is known to be a TU puller. Synch is also generally a TU puller (except for me where they always pull EX lol) but with a <700 score you will likely get a store card.

Don't pay collections that old unless it is PFD, the new activity on an old collection will cause your score to drop (unless they are actively reporting monthly on the collections).

for credit cards preapproval = prequalified; its not like a mortgage where the terms have different meaning

Thanks, that's what I figured was the best thing to do with collections.

I applied to Barclays yesterday.   I stopped there.  So now I'll have 2 inquaries.  I got the 7-10 day response.

I thought it would be easier now, since I had the secured card for a couple years and paid it down to less than 10% ballance every month.  My score has barely gone up in a year.

Re: My First App Spree - Any suggestions?

Any suggestions for a secured card that can change to unsecured sometime in the future?   Capital One won't unsecure it.  So I'll eventually close that.   Another secured card for maybe $300, would at least thicken my file.

Recon that Barclays app before throwing in the towel completely. They are really good on recon, nothing guaranteed of course.

BofA and Wells Fargo have graduating secured cards. I had wells but having to do over again I'd go bofa.

866-408-4064 (Barclays credit analyst) good luck

Thanks...   I did apply a couple yrs about for BofA securred,   I got rejected for that.  I had probably a 550 credit score then and couple more collections.   I think I'll try for wells fargo in Jan.  I had a 5k limit credit card with them that was closed by them back around 2009.   I never used it, so they closed it.

Do you know if the 7-10 day leter from Barclays probably means the app got rejected?  If they pulled TU only then the only negative would be the 150 verizon collection.  I'm kind of surprised that it's that hard to qualify.  TU says that my credit is better than 78% of the population.

I would look for a CU to join. Local or otherwise. They were priceless to me in my rebuild.

Read up on credit rebuilding and diff. lenders that also give loads of info and data points about potential cards you are thinking of..BEFORE apping.....This forum is a great place to learn oodles about these things so that you cn be better informed instead of just apping any and everywhere...
Scores do help but the whole file does come into play thus the advice on the collections,,, so the garden is also a cool place to hang out while learning and working on these things...
Best of luck on your credit journey.........

Re: My First App Spree - Any suggestions?

7-10 from Barclays has always been a denial for me, at first. I've successfully reconned them 4 times lol. Just be ready to answer for anything and everything on your report.

How old is that Verizon/pinnacle collection? I don't think you ever said which card you were trying for w/Barclays but I'm assuming the rewards mc. If the collection is 3+ yrs old I'd think you have a fair shot at recon. You took the HP so I'd try, but wouldn't let them pull another report.

As mentioned above, the rebuilding forum is absolutely priceless. CU was a good suggestion too

Thanks,  That's good to hear about Barclays.  I forgot which Barclays card I applied to.  I think it was the rewards mc.   The Verizon collection is about 4.5 or 5 yrs old.

Re: My First App Spree - Any suggestions?

My scores hae been stuck at about 675 for a year.   I only have one card, the secured capital one and I've had that for over a year.  If I continue waiting, then nothing will happpen with my score, except it may go up 5 points over several months, if I just contunue to pay the CapOne card on time.

I want to drop the CapOne card, after adding a couple cards, since I have a 3k deposit on it.  I didn't mean to have that money tied up for so long, since I thought I'd be approved for unsecured cards by now.

So at minumum, I'm going to add 2 secured cards at a $300-500 deposit.  Then garden for 6 months.
