This is interesting.....I’m sure we will be seeing more about this as posters test it out.
Thanks for sharing op.
I honestly would not be surprised if they put something like a prequal in place. It's not like they don't already know they have one the most sought after relationships in the business. When I call I have to control myself to keep from phone Apping they are so nice. It's like credit Disneyland. "Would you like this?... How about one of those?... Here, take one of these while I have you on the phone..." ![]()
One should not be allowed to have access to Navy without strong credit counseling and a support group like MF ![]()
Yeah it is actually kind of wild that NFCU doesn't have prequals when PenFed will actually tell you the limit of a new account or what CLI you qualify for. It would be great if NFCU rolls out prequals and stops us from having to burn HPs like they're going out of style.

I think Navy sees hitting us with HPs as doing Gods work like exercising the Demons from our sinful ways... Or they could just be trying to mark their territory like Cap1... ![]()

I mean we all ask so we don't have anyone to blame except ourselves but that doesn't change the fact that PenFed targets the same military customers (they're actually stricter about gaining membership this way than NFCU) and thus would be considered the primary CU competitor for them.
It is always a trade off with CUs though. None of them are without their quirks that makes them unique.

Didnt realize PenFed was more strict than Navy for membership.
How about this
Hi, my name is xxMchine. I want to apply for your xxxxx card but Im not a member of NFCU. Is there a way I can give you my information and see if I would be prequalified
before I formally join?
Just figured I would add my experience. I called NFCU and said I was interested in the More Rewards card, but wanted to check if i'm pre-qualified for it. She said they have no way of knowing, they would just have to do a regular credit application. So I told her not at this time. Maybe only certain reps know about it?

They only are if you're trying to take the military route instead of the paid route. Since I didn't serve, I wouldn't be eligible for membership without donating to their foundation. Families of those who served aren't included like they are with NFCU.
@Loquat wrote:Sounds decent in theory but I just don't trust a phone rep taking my info saying that they're going to "prequal" me only to get a ding while on said phone call from a credit monitoring service.
Great if it works...but there would be a need for quite a few DPs before I'd trust something like that...especially with a phone rep.
I agree, I've seen too many topics where someone got a HP when promise a SP.

This is likely due to their internal system, and what is generated for members. If you're not a mamber they probably don't have a way to prequalify. Just as it's the same way if you're a customer with any other Bank, then can check the system to see what you're qualified for.
