I few days ago I applied for a CLI on my GoRewards card which had a CL of $9,600. I asked for $30,000 since it was NFCU. The request went to "Under Review" and an hour later it showed approved for $5,400 bringing my CL on that card to $15,000. The letter I just got in the mail says it was only partially granted because "You've reached Navy Federal's maximum unsecured credit limit". I have a Cash Rewards card with them that also sits at $15,000 for a combined exposure of $30,000.
My EQ FICO 9 is 791. Annual income $65,000. DTI 1%. UTL 2%. The GoRewards card is 13 months old. Cash Rewards is 10 months.
I was a little dissapointed, but honestly a CL of $5,000 is really all I probably need. I have seen posts from people who have Navy limits in an amount equal to their income, so I don't know how their internal limit is calculated. Anyone have any idea? My income is not going to change much in the forceeable future. Is there any other factor that might increase their internal limit?
I can't answer your questions but would like to comment on your increase for the SL. Congrats. I'd be happy for you but it seems that you're not. The worse that can happen is deny you straight up plus as you mentioned you already have a big CL with them on your first one.

Oh don't get me wrong, I am ecstatic with Navy. They have been extremly generous to me and as I pointed out I have way more credit with them then I need or could responsbily use. A $5400 CLI is nothing to be ungrateful about. My prior $9600 CL was really killing my credit OCD. I was anxious for a $401 CLI just to break $10,000 on the card....lol.
I really was just curious about how the Navy internal limit is calculated. My income is not large but my debt is almost non-existant. There have been posts suggesting Navy focuses more on DTI that FICO scores.
Seems like NFCU's internal limit, per individual, is about half of your reported income.

I had a limit of 25k and asked for 50k and they said my limit with them was 30k and gave me that. I got another NFCU card and they gave me a starting limit of 25k. So I have 55k total. Really it isn't worth a hard pull to get any more limits from them.
You could get another card if you need more limit. Do you need more limit or are you just seeing what you can get?
You'll find a lot of data points on this in the big NFCU thread...
Congrats on your CLI. I always am most worried about wasting HPs. In this case it was not wasted by any means. Again, Congrats.
Navy is a different animal. I have read so many posts about this and the poster will go apply for the Flagship or another Navy card and get a monster SL after previously being at max ex... If there was a rule book for us all to read then things would just be toooooo easy!!
Again- Congrats and cheer up! 5k for a hp is nothing to nod your head at!
Cheers
